So finally FTTH has come to my block here in table view. Just about the entire neighbourhood is Frogfoot, and then the first to put down fibre on our block is Octotel.

Now I'm looking at using CoolIdeas as the ISP, but it's R200 more per month on Octotel compared to Frogfoot for the 100/100 service.

Trenching is done, driveway looks a bit incomplete and I'm in no mood for Frogfoot to come through and lift it all up again. The Billion Networks tech said that would be the case when Frogfoot arrives on the block and everyone is complaining about the double trenching.

Just looking to find out if there's really a point in waiting for Frogfoot and whether Octotel is worth the extra R200/month. Or are both providers equal in quality, yet one is doing premium pricing for some reason.

I’m in Sunningdale and very happy on Frogfoot with CISP, 100/100 package. Been a customer since July and haven’t had a minute of downtime and streaming in 4K is always perfect.

Only thing with Frogfoot is single threaded http downloads from international is slow so have to use a multi threaded download manager for those, but that’s about it.

Are Frogfoot definitely trenching by you, any ETA? I would be keen to get online as soon as possible so would probably go with Octotel in your situation, but R200 is R200. You definitely won’t be getting R200 more value, I think statistically Frogfoot has been far more stable than Octotel or Vumatel since I’ve been monitoring things.

Quite a few of my single thread downloads are also problematic even on 10mbit ADSL lately. Doesn't help that there's no useful download manager anymore for Firefox.

See, that stats issue is what worries me. Have friends in West Beach who are on Octotel and they've mentioned having been stuck with just 2mbit on their 100mbit fibre line from time to time. It also didn't coincide with the recent telkom outage issues.

Frogfoot indicate launch by 14/12. Haven't seen them in the area at all. I have no idea how these things work, so not even sure if they have to trench twice or just follow into what ever Billion Networks has laid down for Octotel.
