OCZ Vertex 3 re install

I need to re install as I have a new motherboard.
Do I just format?

I would recommend secure erase. When the SSD receives the secure-erase command it resets it to factory default so you should get the best speeds after that.

If you just format (quick, never ever do a complete format on an SSD), the SSD won't know which files are being deleted. The OS sends the TRIM command when it deletes files to let the SSD know but not if you format.

It gets fairly technical to explain (so I'm not sure if I am explaining this properly), but if you want in-depth details I can try going more technical.

Moral of the story: Secure erase is best if you want to start over ;)

You can try this tool:
