Hi all,

Well after waiting 6 months for my ADSL to be installed, it finally happened.

I bought a Linksys WA354G v2 from Amazon whilst I was in the UK and set it up to connect to IS.

When I connect, I can ping google.com (or any other international site) about 10 or 12 times perfectly and then it starts timing out. During those 10 successful pings, international websites open just fine. Until I reconnect again, I can't do anything international related but all local sites open at full speed.

If I connect with SAIX, it works perfectly for hours on end. I tried my IS account at a friend's house about 16km away and it works great.

Do you think there's a problem with my exchange? I thought the problem would sort itself out but it's been like this for 2 days.

I have tried routed and bridged mode and it makes no difference. Oh, and I have a Telkom wi-fi router too and it does EXACTLY the same thing so I'm 99.999999% sure it isn't my Linksys router.

Thanks in advance.

Hi

I have a very similar problem with my IS account. I have a 5Gb Int account with WebAfrica, and now recently bought a 30Gb IS local account as well.

When I am connected with my 5Gb account I have NO problems at all browsing the Web, downloading, etc. Switching accounts to IS brings the Internet to a grinding halt, (but it must be noted that sometimes it does give me 25-35k speeds).

I am using a D-Link 604T in bridge mode, so I connect using "dial-up" style connections via the desktop. Yesterday I downloaded the same file off the IS FTP server as a test and got 32k, 21k, 34k, 18k, etc. All of these tests were done about half an hour apart.

I am almost sure I am setup correctly due to the fact that sometimes the connection works correctly with acceptible speed.

I see that TheKuzin mentioned something about the IS FTP Server ? What is on this ftp server ? or was he just talking about the news server and accidently called it the ftp server ?

There is a FTP server that IS hosts, a few mirrors (Linux, Open Source Stuff, etc). I connected via a DOS Command window and did the download test pulling a few "test" files from the FTP Server.

BTW: Just did a download right now and got 35k average!!

I forgot to mention that it's a Datapro account.

Maybe that has something to do with it?
