Hi guys

So i had a technician come in today to try fix our line speed problem. His resolution was that the phone was causing interferance on the adsl line and said i should replace the phone. He then said its fixed as long as my telephone is unplugged. This however hasnt solved the problem.

I then took it apon my self to try a few things and i noticed that if I do an international speedtest, it will not load. A local on the otherhand will work at full line speed etc. The next weird thing is, youtube loads and buffers video at lightning speed,. Yet going onto something like saix.net or facebook.com leaves me with nothing but an error message after 10 min of trying to connect. mybroadband.co.za loads fast but other sites do not.

What could be the problem here? i have tried another isp and the same issue occurs... please help :o

Have you checked the your DNS settings are correct? If you do an address lookup to the sites that don't load does it resolve to an IP address. Check your router to see if you have static dns servers.

Dns is set to automatic. See, the websites do eventually load after trying a lot. So some take forever where others take very quick.

Who is your ISP?

I assume you have a filter online with your phone. That will negate the technicians comment about the phone causing issues. Problem may be connected to a mucked up transparent proxy from the ISP.

Google has recently opened local South African servers for its Youtube servers, so that service is like connecting to a local website, because it is local for us now. So your initial analysis of international sites versus local sites is still intact...

ISP is telkom. Also tried my afrihost account and same problem. The technician told me I must not connect the adsl to the filter and rather to the box directly :/ haha. Told me the filter is only for telephone. Even though it has a adsl port on it :/ anyways I kinda felt the entire time that the technician hadn't a clue what he was doing.
