HI

Just wondering have anyone on MyBB attempted sum of the offensive security certs and what was your experience with them. Im considering registering for Offensive Security Certified Professional (OSCP) course.

Thanks

I have done CEH and CHFI from eccouncil.org but OSCP looks good.

Even though I went through the CEH study material and presentations a few times many exam questions tested experience. Pretty sure that it is set up in a way that anyone without experience will fail regardless of the amount of studying done.

Another option is SSCP from isc2.org so you can look at that too.

I think these certs are useful if you plan to stay hands-on but if you want to move into a security managment position working towards CISSP is the way to go.

I suggest you read through some of the forum posts in ethicalhacker (link below). It is not an easy course as it will test everything about you. I suggest you make sure your python and bash scripting is not novice even though they do teach you in the course. I will be signing up later in the year. Good luck and do share your experience once started.

Very good read thanks. I do agree with it but many of the local higher paying security jobs list it as a requirement so it still has some use over here.

Reminds me of MCSE. Back in the day guys left school, did MCSE in a few weeks and walked into jobs with minimum R10 000 starting salary. How things have changed..

From InfoWorld

Is CISSP certification worth the effort ?

( Don't shoot me -- I am just the messenger ! )

Thanks for the input, yep the Offensive security stuff is hectic but ya need to cross that bridge. I will keep u guys updated thanks

I am also interrested in doing the offensive security cert. Please let me know what your experience of it is.

From what i can tell the OSCP is more hands on like CEH. I have started with my CISSP studies this year. It is much more about the managerial best practices and assessment driven course.

I think there is a place for both. But if you want to get on track for a career in security. It would be better to start with a technical certification like OSCP then later perhaps do something like CISSP ( as a prerec is you need 5 years of work experience )
