Hey,

I will assist you with installing popular PHP software such as blogs, forums, CMSs, eCommerce solutions etc. for free.

I can also help you to set up hosting and a domain name. (I believe there are free options available.)

Many hosting services offer free 1-click installation for the popular applications, which means you should be able to do this yourself, although I'm not sure if they keep the software up-to-date after installation. This will only be the free software though, the better forum solutions (for example vBulletin and IP.Board) are not free (but recommended).

What do I get in return? Nothing ... maybe a few contacts for future web development work (installing themes/modifications, customizing logos, etc. or full websites), but there is absolutely no obligation to use my services.

PS. Visitors don't magically come flooding to your website after you set it up, so don't waste your time (and mine) if you're not serious about promoting and maintaining it. :)

Those free script installers that you're referring to are generally kept up to date automatically but the end user should update the script himself. This isn't done automatically incase something, like 3rd party plugins / themes / custom addons break after the automated update.

Yep, I was referring to the script itself. Good point regarding automatic updates and custom mods.
 
Do you perhaps know VB?
A friend came to me with a request and I haven't got the foggiest clue how to help him.
It does not involve web sites though.
Apparently it is called screen scrapping.

This was this the request I received.

Visual basic code to do screen scraping in Attachmate Extra and to paste the result in Excel 2010.

The process will start with a list of item codes in excel which must be send to attachmate for verification. On completion of verification process the details of the item must be copied and pasted into Excel on the corresponding item code line. Once that is done the next item code must be processed following the same route until the end of the list.

The idea is to obtain all the information regarding the current item codes and then to manually update or correct it in excel. When the data has been updated I want to update the data in attachmate following the same route as mentioned above except that it should be in reverse.

Apparently he has away to do it, using macros, but it is very long process involving screen prints, pasting in Excel. Also with the macro he can only update 200 records as it can only handle a 1000 lines ant the info is spread over 5 lines.

Is there anyway you can help please?

I played around with VB many years ago, but never studied it formally. I'm also not familiar with Attachmate Extra, which appears to be some form of terminal emulation software.

Not really my area of expertise I'm afraid. :(

Am a VB 6 based mcsd from way back 2001 . when he is referring to VB is he talking about VB, VB.net or VBA (ms office)?

Anyway, the way we used to do it those days we used to use commercial or free components and controls (DLL and ocx files) to write our coding to implement telnet or SSH (which is probably the protocol that attachmate is using).

If he is looking for these, he can look at commercial ones like:
