My Office 365 was installed by making use of a product key (not from a disc).

I received a message that, in order to keep using my office applications without interruption, I have to renew it by 26 Feb. I then get an option to "buy".

Would I then simply be taken to a website in order to pay for a renewal by credit card, or how would this specific renewal be done ?

Thanks

Have a look at this solution remembering to uninstall the present version first before trying. It was a legitimate request...

I am not an IT expert. How would I know if, e.g. once I pay for a renewal, I need to key in another code, or whether it renews automatically?

If I knew, surely I would not be asking the folks that are experienced in this field.

That's not how your question was phrase. I didn't intend my answer to come across like that. It was a serious answer to your question.

Read it back to yourself. You're not asking about the technical aspects of renewal and codes. You're asking more about what the website will do...

That will more than likely by explained on the page itself.

Click buy and read.

Your credit card details won't magically appear on the site when you click buy.

I was hesitant to click on 'buy' and probably did not explain my apprehension properly. Apologies!

I went ahead and paid for the renewal and the website does not give me a proper invoice. Which is precisely the kind of thing I dislike in a situation like this.

You should get a proper invoice in time.

True.

However, it helps to know how updates and renewals get done (technically) in order to use this particular site with confidence.

Example: My software license expires by 26 Feb. Now that I have paid for the renewal, is there anything I must do to activate it or will it simply carry on smoothly on (or after) 26 Feb? I was not prompted to activate the renewal.

SO you paid before the actual license expired? Why?I would have waited till it doesnt allow me, then went ahead with the renewal.

That does not answer my Q :)

Lol fine,

Internet access is required to install and activate all the latest releases of Office suites and all Office 365 subscription plans.
For subscription versions of Office including Office 365 Home Premium you will need to go online to manage your subscription account, for example to install Office on other machines, or to change billing options. You will also need to connect to the Internet regularly to keep your version of Office up-to-date and benefit from automatic upgrades. Internet connectivity is also required to access the Office 365 offerings such as SkyDrive.

Does that answer your Q?
