Office Chair Suggestions

I need a good office chair for my room, studying and long hours with the laptop. I need something ergonomic (high back not mid back).

Budget is R1600

Most of the ones I see don't have good back support or very bad quality.

Open to gaming chairs but they aren't reasonable priced (the good ones at least).

Appreciate any suggestions.
 
Sadly that's not the price for a decent office chair. You'll get a chair sure but decent??
 
Even the ones at Makro going for 2500 are KAK and led me to develop back issues
Only solution was to pony up for an entry level Cecil Nurse chair

Oh and the ones sold at Makro… the base mechanism under the seat cracks in half… pure purest CHINESIUM

I made the investment a few years ago and paid the R18k (then) for a Herman Miller Aeron. It's still basically just as good as the day I bought it except for a few scratches and scuffs from daily use. No more lower back issues, totally worth the money imo.

A proper ergonomics chair is about R8000.

I would recommend on a tight budget get a second hand actual office and not the Makro, Game chairs.

The Makro and Game chairs only last about 2 years or so before something break.

Don't get fake leather. It's becomes brittle and loose and makes a mess.

The one I bought lasted 2 weeks until the seat base cracked and then broke. I took it apart and rebuilt the sub frame and base with metal and fibreglass. Its been OK since but they really are cheap junk and I'm not even overweight.
So +1 for going to an office supply store for a second hand option.
 
I wouldn't mind paying alot more unfortunately been unemployed and earning little money online is what I have for now sadly but yes finding good chairs at my budget is difficult so I'm just looking for something with back support and would last for a reasonable amount of time.

Check second hand places
 
R1600, rather sit on the floor

A makro chair for 2k will fall apart after 6 mths and cause all sorts of back aches.

Save and get a wau. My $0.02

If you're referring to the price then just remember that I probably don't ever have to buy another office chair again. Plus I don't have problems with lower back pain so fewer doctors.

If you're spending your entire working day in a chair like I am then there is nothing wrong spending some money on a proper chair, I don't think most people would feel that spending this amount on a PC/laptop setup is weird, so why should it be for the chair you're sitting on using that PC. I also don't have to upgrade my chair every few years.

Its like someone who wants to buy Citi Golf Chico with a budget of 80K and you recommend they get an R800K GOLF GTI. ;)

There is a R16 000 between your chair and OP budget.
 
A bad chair will wreck your neck. You'll end up at the doc one day after xrays and he's telling you one or more of your vertebrae is crumbling. Shell the money out as if it's an investment.

A good chair but not for your posture can also cause big problems. Good to get a chair that is adjustable and/or go sit in one in a store if you have that option.

Obviously not saying OP must buy one of these, but I think it's good knowing how much good office chairs actually cost.

Spending too little on an office chair will probably just cost you more after it's a piece of junk in a couple of years. Most people won't spending Aeron money on a chair but I think people also don't understand how much good chairs actually cost.

Then rather set a timer for every half hour / 45 mins. Get up and move around for 5 minutes - skipping rope, yoga mat, lift a light weight etc. These things are all pretty cheap and will do more for your health than being stuck in an expensive chair for 8 hours straight. I've also got a big yoga ball next to my desk that I switch to at random throughout the day, even just for a few minutes and back to the chair again.

I bought one of these years ago and it's not bad. At least the back is height and incline adjustable so you can play around to find the right posture. About the best you'll get for the budget unless you look for decent second hand chairs.
