Wow - what Mac are you running? Granted, in our office we run retina pros with SSD/16GB RAM and Office just flies. I heard from a power-user though that VLOOKUP and other functions are dodgy. Thankfully I don't go beyond sorting and pivots.
It's a 2014 MBPr i5 with 8GB memory.
I just cannot fathom why an application that's only job is to download an update and install it requires the use of 55GB of virtual memory.
I constantly have issues with Lync for Mac also locking up randomly and eating 100% CPU, to a point where I now try to keep it closed more often than not.
And the fact that Excel for Mac can still only utilise 1 (ONE!!!) CPU core for it's calculations.
I can understand this kind of stuff with a small company, but MS is one of the biggest software companies in the world (if not the biggest), I would expect them to get these things right. I honestly have very little to no issues with any other apps that I use.
