With sales of Apple computers taking off strongly in SA, a growing number of converts are looking for decent desktop word processing, spreadsheet, e-mail and presentation software.
With sales of Apple computers taking off strongly in SA, a growing number of converts are looking for decent desktop word processing, spreadsheet, e-mail and presentation software. Thankfully, they don’t have to look further than Microsoft, the same company that controls the market for productivity software on Windows.
Office: mac 2008, the latest version of Microsoft’s Mac suite, is well priced, too. Most home users will be able to make do with the home & student edition, which retails for R1200, and which includes Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Entourage (the Mac equivalent of Outlook). If you’re in a corporate environment, you’ll want to stump up the extra cash for the standard version, which costs R2500. This version includes support for Exchange Server.
There are too many new features in Office: mac 2008 to mention in the space available here, but one that stands out is the new “My Day” application, which provides a detailed diary and to-do list in an easily accessible floating panel. Also useful are the new “ledger sheets” in Excel for handling common financial management tasks.
The new Office runs natively on both Intel-based Macs and older PowerPC-based systems.
