Official Black Ops Discussion Thread

Guys, turning your aa up will decrease your fps... Turn it off and check it then... Also you don't need fraps. Just type in console (~) drawfps and check the exact command. I think it is /cg_drawfps 1

But the game definately works better on quad cores :)

ja, stock intel cooler sux!! so I would only attempt a mild OC... unless you want to waste about 300 / 400 bucks on aftermarket cooler (only for a month tho-unless you use it again on the upgrade :))

oldschool .. bios

+1, easiest to just bump the FSB to 348! :D

E7600 = 3.06Ghz = 11.5 * 266 (standard)
E7600 = 4Ghz = 11.5 * 348 (OC)

BTW, What mobo do you have? and Ram?

What you gonna do with this setup when you upgrade?

I have a Gigabyte EP43DSL mobo RAM is Kingston cheapies - 4GB

Not sure yet. I am in two minds whether I should sell the whole case and start from scratch, or whether I should gut it, keep the PSU (Gigabyte 650) and case and transplant the rest onto the SB setup once I upgrade...

Why, do you wanna buy?

LoL, maybe... I say, get a cheapy cooler @ R300 and OC. If you sell, you can always sell it with or if you keep the stuff, it won't go to waste!

Duplicate post dunno why...

Slow internet can do that. :D

SIGH, tell me about it. The network here at work is completely stuffed...

Oh well I see I can go into youtube... LOL dunno for how long!!! ;)

Well if you're interested PM me. We can chat.

Easiest way is to google "overclock (XXX CPU) on stock cooling" see what other guys values are for their overclocks and start from there. If you BSOD then up the volts a little.
If all you plan on doing is playing Black Ops then run a temp logging program while playing and after 10 minutes switch into windows to check that your temps havent gone too high

Any of you guys lap your CPU's ?? I did... dropped temps by about 7 deg... Was tedious work tho!

For CPU: http://forums.pureoverclock.com/showthread.php?p=5409
For Cooler: http://www.w7forums.com/lap-your-cpus-heatsink-better-heat-transfer-t5912.html

I didnt do my cooler (CM V8) was too awkward to hold....

The only reason why I haven't done it. Don't need to anyway. Even at 4Ghz, my cpu runs pretty cool. Have to disable HT though, that I why I have dropped to 3.6ghz. Didn't really put much efford into it. :D

U Lucky ... my Q6600 is a heat magnet, damn thing ran hot from stock.... would peak at about 69C with the stock cooler..... Now, In summer when ambient in my PC room is about 30C (no aircon :() I get to about 55C max, usually idle about 13C hotter than ambient.
