OFFICIAL HTC Desire Thread

on the leaf website it says the following under Software support "Please note: In order to download firmware installation files for your phone (if available) you'll need to sign up with the Leaf Club and supply your phone's IMEI and Serial number.

" Does this mean OTA or via the net?

you saying there is not much of an improvement?

Mostly under the hood changes. Haven't played with it much, but seems smoother. Tested wifi tether - awesome. And if you're not gonna root then its worth it for the apps2sd alone. AND the start up tone is much softer - lol.

You can move (supporting) apps to the sd, settings-->manage applications-->select app-->move to sd.

The "update.zip" should be in the root directory i.e. not in any folder (this is what worked for me). Once you select reboot (after installing the update), it will boot a few times showing the HTC splash screen.

I thought the official was supposed to be "safe" :/

Yup, that's exactly what I thought too. And once the update finished and installed I even got a message saying "your phone was updated successfully to the following ROM". And then the damn thing got stuck and wouldn't load.

But like I said a factory reset fixed it.

when i get to the part after the triangle and exclamation point the phone as a message @ the bottom saying "E: Can't open /cache/recovery.command" than get the error 7 message when i click “Apply sdcard:update.zip.

Same. Think it on shows the /cache/recovery command error as soon as you press the power key, but then gives the menu anyway. After selecting update on the menu it says verifying for a bit, then installing, then errors.

Those who have Froyo, is it worth it or rather root my desire and go custom? Keep in mind and dont have money or insurance to replace my desire so the warranty means allot to me...

only button that works is the search key, and that searches google online :( stupid loop error is common I see.....

If you start typing in search it should show stuff on your phone, it only searches google after you click the little magnifying glass.

*Sigh* :-(

I get the "Status 7" error while updating. Seems the phone is branded in some way - although I can't see any branding on the phone, there were also never any Vodafone/Vodacom splash screens or anything.

Anybody else here had success in upgrading a HTC Desire you got from Vodacom?

Or have a way around the "Status 7" error?

Dang - was so looking forward to Froyo :-)

Have a Vodacom Desire, no status 7 error.

Updated last night, but it bricked my phone! It got stuck in a loop saying "loading", "error starting HTC Sense", "loading. Restarting, taking the battery out, etc, didn't help.

Did a factory reset (turn off the phone, press volume down and then press power (while still holding vol down)) and that fixed it

YOu have the same error as IRG did. It seems to be pretty common. You had something on your homescreen that got moved/deleted during the update and sense doesnt know how to handle it. Clearing Sense's cache deletes all your homescreens and stops the error.

The phone is almost exactly the same - there are some minor tweaks, it is a little faster and it has the added functionality we were told was coming (hotspot, app2sd etc). If you are happy with your phone the way it is now, just update it. If you want to do something that you have to be rooted to do (market spoofing etc) then go custom.

Yeah, I got it through the upgrade call centre. I did apply a minor update since then, but I don't know if that would have made a difference.

Maybe the file you downloaded is corrupted?

there any way you can upload the file you used? Tried downloading the one from xda a few times but have terrible speed...
