Considering that it's due to be launched in about six weeks, let's start the preparations shall we? :D

Apparently, there will be two iterations of this model- the M9 and M9 Plus. Basically the Android version of the iPhone 6 range. That doesn't bother me at all :D

Rumoured specs:

  • 5 inch FHD screen (5.5 inch QHD for M9 Plus).
  • Octocore Snapdragon 810 processor.
  • 3GB RAM.
  • 20MP Sony CMOS rear sensor with dual tone flash, UltraPixel front facing camera.
  • BoomSound speakers.
  • Edge to edge Gorilla Glass with metal unibody.
  • Fingerprint scanner on M9 Plus.
  • 32GB storage starting point, up to 128GB SD card.
  • Android Lollipop with the Sense 7 skin.
Rumoured final design:

So, who else considers this their next?

Finally they're doing it the right way around.

If I didn't just recently buy a Note 4, this would have been my next phone. Maybe the M10?

I'm considering it. I due for an upgrade on the 17th Feb. So will need to wait a while until the M9 is available on contract in this country. Its either the M9, S6, or whatever other flagship is released in the next few months...

If HTC carry over their excellent camera software from the M8, and couple it with a sensor as solid as this, we may just have a new smartphone camera champion. The UltraPixel idea is the right one (in an ideal world) but still needs advancement.

I hope that it's not the same BS we experienced with the M8 and M7 though. HTC royally screwed up the launches here.

Waiting to see units in the hands of reviewers...looks great on paper but there were issues with Snapdragon 810 that needed to be sorted (and hopefully sorted without compromising on performance). Samsung decided to not use that chip in their next flagship device (Galaxy S) which actually caused Qualcomm's share price to go down.

That might be Samsung just deciding to use more in-house semiconductor parts though rather than any issues with the RTM version of the 810.

I was actually considering the Alpha, based on its metal body and slim design. My current S4 is just too big for easy one-handed use. I dont like this trend of phones getting bigger. if they can make the M9 with a 5" screen but smaller dimensions compared to the S4 I would be very keen. The bezels would have to be tiny though.

I hate bloatware. Cant speak fot the M8, but the S4 and other Samsungs have a ***** ton of bloatware.

Whatever issues existed, they seem to have been sorted out. The Exynos 7420 may well be the better chipset this round, but Samsung need the extra horsepower to accommodate their rubbish software. HTC have no such qualms.

Looking forward to the launch.
