Official HTC One thread

It would be nice if they were at least taking pre-orders. I get the feeling we are waiting for something that is never coming (on MTN at least)
 
So I was happy when I heard that the M7 was getting a Sense 6 update but I was content to wait for MTN to push it OTA in the next 5 months because I wasn't really looking forward to anything that Sense 6 brought that hadn't already come in the KitKat update. However, I then read that the update brought the Extreme Power Saving mode over to the old One and I got really excited. I had seen Samsung's Ultra Power Saving mode in action and I was impressed; I could really use it when I go out at night and have to survive on <20% battery.

Unfortunately the old temproot exploit that Firewater had used to get Unlocks and S-Off without first factory resetting through HTCdev was fixed in the 4.4.2 update so I had to go through that painful process and backup my apps with the clearly inferior Helium instead of Titanium because I couldn't get root before the wipe. After that though it was smooth sailing, I installed a custom recovery and then flashed Android Revolution HD. So far (only had it for a day) I'm really enjoying Sense 6, it feels like a new phone and with the enhancements that you can apply through the Sense 6 Toolbox that comes with the ROM my phone is a lot more tailored to my needs. The UI also feels snappier although this is probably a combination of the Update, the custom ROM and the fact that my phone was wiped. Battery life so far seems improved too which is great.

One piece of bad news however, the Extreme Power Saving mode (which sparked this whole journey) on HTC devices, unlike the Samsung implementation, doesn't allow you to use instant messaging apps like Whatsapp making it orders of magnitude less useful than I had hoped. The update was definitely worth it though and I proved when I sent my last One in for replacement that you can get it back to stock in such a way that they can't detect you were ever custom so I have no warranty worries.
 
Got my sense 6 update yesterday on Cell C, Im really enjoying it. I like the new fonts and themes, but the camera effects and filters were better on 5. Overall look is sleek!!
