Official ICC 2015 CWC thread

To be honest it was just bad umpiring....

...but the fact is that ICC 'would like' the QFs to be made up of the top 8. ,,,,not saying that umps are under instruction, nor that it is racially based, but that is what they 'would like'.
It is all about TV ratings/revenue and bums on seats. That is why this circus is being dragged on for nearly two months. Teams are playing once/week in round robin, when they could have two games/day...one in each group with 3 rest days on average.

If TV ratings is their main goal (and it is, else what is the point) then having an underdog or two I. The top 8 is what they would want. People would rather see the UAE or Afghanistan potentially win the World Cup than RSA vs India (except for RSA and India fans of course)

Ind v SA got 90,000 at the MCG the highest ever for non Aussie game. What would UAE/Afghanistan have gotten, even with free tickets


Who's going to get more at the SCG on 18th March? And who will get the biggeset TV audience

Zimbabwe/UAE

That's the equivalent of messing up your brand new rims on JRA's craters in broad daylight. You'd never do that consciously.

The small voice at the back of my mind tells me umpires were under strict instructions from the ICC not to let ZIM through. That's why there's little outcry.

First Gayle's lbw, today the umpires never erred on the side of ZIM in tight calls, then throw in the bleeding obvious no balls!

They want a 10 team tournament, and one of the top 8 teams missing out doesn't auger well.

I'll be watching England vs Bangladesh very closely next Monday(9th). I wouldn't be surprised to see Finn kick the stumps and a no-ball isn't called.

Then you wonder why no one takes you seriously.

This is one of the biggest stages in the world, not some back yard tournament, can you imagine the schit storm if the ICC told umpires to through matches and someone uncovered it?, Do you think there is a big round table where all the ICC executives sit, and they say "we have to inform the umpires to make bad calls, we don't want Zim going through?? its so preposterous its actually funny.
The umpires made bad calls, it happens, not every country all around the world has a knife in for Africa.

The umpiring in this world cup has been dismal, its no the first huge no ball they have failed to spot...

If an underdog like the UAE starts winning games, reaches the final and are placed against the likes of India or RSA I bet you the whole damn WORLD would be watching. People love the underdog.

Tickets, tickets going cheap.....UAE vs RSA at MCG, come on support the underdog.

To be honest as much as the Melburnians fill the MCG for anything with a ball involved, I think most of them would be rather washing the car that day.

Exactly my conspiracy theorist thinking. ICC got some inside info on spot fixing, and were told if no balls exceed 10cm over the line, don't call them.

Sounds insane, but I can't rule it out for myself.
 
I'm presenting an argument about ICC underhandedly maintaining the status quo of the top 8 elite, yet somehow you translate it to and simplify it to Zimbabwe/Race. :confused:

You forget that last time India missed out and everyone suffered which meant the whole format was changed as a result. This time if ENG and one of WI/PAK missed out after first round, then the whole decision to qualify will start to look uncomfortable.

I firmly believe one of ZIM/BD(mostly BD) will push PAK/WI into #9. Trust me once that happens the format will be changed. But right now they'll do everything to prevent upsetting sponsors&broadcasters until the last minute.

For once I must admit I agree with you. Not saying it's true, but it's a big possibility, unfortunately. Kind of akin to the 2011 RWC "let's do everything we can as the IRB to get New Zealand to the title" campaign.

I agree on both fronts. Hafeez is hit or miss but Pakistan ar emissing his batting and bowling badly!

The Proteas get by with the same Test players in all formats. It makes sense for Pakistan to select Azhar Ali&Asad Shafiq in ODIs too.

I hope WI soon come to the realisation that Kraigg Brathwaite is their best opening partner to Gayle, or with somebody else while Gayle comes in at #3. I can't believe this brilliant young man hasn't played a single ODI! He did everything he can, even in Tests to prove he can score swiftly.
