Official ICC World T20 thread

It was a great game. However, there is one thing that is bugging me, Wayne Parnell is a great bowler, but going for 9.50 an over in such a tight game is just not on. He kept dishing up full tosses to Oram of all people.

And he was not swinging the ball, and IMO, he bowled so full to try and get some swing, but I did not see any of his swing. And yet at the other end Steyn and Kallis were moving the ball sideways!

Time to give Abdullah a shot I think.

Ye I think so to, If this game didnt mean anything in terms of points and placement, why did SA play with their full squad? A bit brave to let your players risk injury on a "nothing" game I think...

So we don't end up like the Aussies ;)

Have you seen how much better a team plays once it is settled and the same players is played everytime?

Lol, how can you move kallis after the way he has been playing? He is great at opening in T20.

He is 19 y/o and SA crick did not contract him because they are going to throw him away ;) He just needs more game time and last night he learned a lot.

Well i look at how well gibbs did with the deccan chargers, i also know if gibbs gets going he is capable of far more destruction upfront than kallis. JK remember that we need to keep momentum, Players can get injured while training just as much as they do during a cricket match.

I don't think resting players is a great idea in pro 20 because its so short why rest players? Keep a team playing together and make sure they all know they will start the next game because you want confidence, you don't want players thinking this may be their only chance to get into the next game, i dunno if that makes any sense :p

Steyn the over before also went for quite a few. He bowled two wides which is unforgivable. That being said, parnell made a few mistakes, but overall he seems to handle the pressure quite well. I think give him as much game time as possible and will have a winner on our hands.

So in a do or die style tourney you will go with the guy that performs once in 5 games instead of the other guy that performs 4 out of 5 games?

I would rather have our most attacking, destructive player opening the batting and if you look at the ipl gibbs was the one oke who held a few innings together and if it was not for him they would not have won a few games. He is a match winner and often comes off in big must win games.

I did not say they must throw him away, as talented as he is, we cant ignore the abilities of Abdullah in this form the game. Vd Merwe has proven that his performances in our domestic T20 league can translate into great performances on the world stage, and to have one of the best, if not the best, domestic T20 bowlers we have warming the bench does not make much sense.

I get what you saying but some of the main players would need some rest I think...
Kallis, Botha oldish, not new to the game, both played till the final in the IPL.
But anyway... cant wait for the next round...

Whats the fixtures for the Super 8? DSTVs fixtures are all wrong!

All im saying is is kallis is firing atm and I won't change things. If they wanted someone to up the run rate they should have sent in gibbs rather than vd merwe.

Also he was batting great at nr 3 or 4 in the warm up games with two scores close to 50 so why unsettle him now by batting him at 1 again?

Does anyone really know how the super 8's work I am totally confused as to why SA is scheduled to play WI on Saturday?

The super 8's work on a pre-seeded format, so even though we finished 1st in our group, we go to the pool the '2nd' team would have gotten... very stupid if you ask me!

There are two groups of four, based on seedings from the previous world cup. As long as you qualify (ha ha Australia), your performance in the first round counts for nothing. So, NZ had a better pre-seeding than us and qualify ahead of us in our group, even though our performance in the first round was better.

In the case of Australia: they were seeded in their group, but failed to qualify. WI were unseeded, and they take over Australia's seeding - regardless of the result of the game today.

No points or run rates are carried through.

And to answer your next question: Yes, it is a ****ed-up system and it makes no sense. But that's how it works.

Here are the seedings, before we went into the tournament:

India(1st)
Pakistan(2nd)
Australia(3rd)
New Zealand(4th)
South Africa(5th)
Sri Lanka(6th)
England(7th)
Bangladesh(8th)
Ireland (9th)
Netherlands(10th)
West Indies(11th)
Scotland(12th)

cricket has never understood the concept of: QF -> SF -> F

its always a long winded exercise, tbh i lost interest in the last world cup (both editions) before the knock out phase
