"North Korea is using its nuclear programme to keep its people in line and to push South Korea and the United States for concessions,"

The US will concede to sending a large consignment of whoop-ass if NK even think of launching a missile.

The United States and South Korea have upgraded their military surveillance status in anticipation of a possible mid-range missile launch by Pyongyang, the latest escalation of tension in the war-weary peninsula.

I wonder if they will get it right or will it land in the ocean again.

Seems FatBoy Kim has painted himself into a corner and will have no option but to fire an expensive missile into the big wide open sea and kill a few fish as a "show of force" in an attempt to save face.

Now, if only the north koreans would march his fat arse into the back yard and assemble a quick firing squad . . .

Problem being , is he really the one calling the shots ?

IS IT really a surprise to learn that Kim Jong-un may not be the one calling the shots in North Korea?

As North Korea - under its 29-year-old leader - makes ever-more bellicose threats against the United States and South Korea, the spotlight is falling on those older heads often seen standing beside him.

The son of Dear Leader Kim Jong-il was hurriedly promoted to the rank of four-star general before succeeding his father following Kim Jong-il's death in December, 2011.

Despite the best efforts of state media, North Korea has had a tough time shedding Kim Jong-un's image as a pudgy kid who grew up in Pyongyang and Switzerland playing video games.

It's had an even tougher time convincing the world that Kim is a legitimate leader and a tough military general.

When he came to power, Kim, dubbed the Supreme Leader, was reported as having a power battle with his aunt and uncle.

Surprise, surprise, Kim Kyong-hui and Jang Sung-Taek are the ones really pulling the strings.

The 66-year-olds were pictured alongside Kim Jong-un at a recent meeting of the Workers' Party, where Kim describe nuclear weapons as "the nation's life treasure".

The aunt and uncle were reportedly asked by the late Kim Jong-il to act as senior advisers and help the hugely inexperience Kim Jong-un with hands-on action.

But according to Jeung Young Tai from Korea's Institute for National Unification, it's clear who's really calling the shots.

"They are in a hurry to establish Kim's image as a powerful military leader to gain respect and control," he said.

"And the ones doing that are Kim Kyong Hui and her husband Jang."

described as the "Lady Macbeth of Korea" and the most powerful woman in Asia, Kim Kyong-Hui is the late Kim Jong-il's younger sister, a key figure inside the Workers Party and a four-star general.

Her husband, Jang Sung-Taek, was one of Dear Leader's closest advisers.

There is greater significance beyond just the office held between the former North Korean leader, Kim Il Sung, and their current leader Kim Jong Un. The link between the two comes by a rarely spoken of yet incredibly important female by name of Kim Kyong-hui.

Kim Kyong-hui is often construed as one of the last living "old guard" within North Korea's communist dynasty. She is Kim Jong Un's aunt and just so happens to be the daughter of North Korea's "Eternal President." Many intelligence analysts who focus on Asian affairs believe Kim Kyong-hui is the true leader in North Korea today as she is the one who specifically instructs Kim Jong Un on every decision he makes.

Kim Kyong-hui can be seen in many images coming out of North Korea. She has stood at the side of her nephew in recent photographs and has also been seen at the front of the 2010 3rd Party Conference where all North Korean leaders were in attendance. She has served as a motherly figure to her nephew Kim Jong Un and many analysts believe he looks up to her more than anyone else.

Kim Jong Un wants to appease his aunt. One way in doing this is through demonstration of might. Yet timing is everything and in only a few short days, he has the perfect opportunity to show his appreciation for Kim Kyong-hui. That opportunity comes on April 15th, the day her father, North Korea's "Eternal President," was born -- the day many intelligence professionals believe the world will watch yet another North Korean missile test.

Iranian Armed Forces Deputy Chief Brig. Gen. Masoud Jazayeri warns the U.S. that Iran will defend North Korea

The deputy chief of staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, Major General Masood Jazayeri announced that Iran will stand by North Korea and defend it in a war between the United States and North Korea.

Jazayeri made the statement on Friday, April 5. He blamed increasing tensions in the Korean peninsula on “excessive demands by the United States,” which he said was “tightening the noose on North Korea.” The Iranian military leader said that those aggressive activities on the part of the U.S. left the North Koreans with no option but to confront the “big Satan.”

“The nation and government of North Korea has always been subject to threat, despotism, and imperialism by the U.S, therefore they consider it their right to boost their own defensive power in order to inhibit their enemy,” said Jazayeri. “The time is long past that the United States can bully other countries.”

And just to make sure Americans understand he means business, Jazayeri warned that “America and her allies will suffer countless thousands of victims” should Iran and North Korea be provoked into a war with the U.S.

The Iranian commitment to stand with North Korea is another move in an escalating exchange of verbal hostilities – considered by many to be mostly posturing – and military maneuvers that North Korea, South Korea and the U.S. have engaged in over the past several months.

The regime of Kim Jung Un has been issuing increasingly threatening announcements, including its boast that it has authorized the nation’s military to launch a nuclear attack on the United States. After reports that the regime had moved its second missile to the country’s east coast, South Korea deployed two warships with missile defense systems.

Early last week the United States announced that it would deploy its advanced ballistic missile defense system in the Pacific in a direct response to increased threats from North Korea.

While most countries with a diplomatic presence in North Korea expressed dismay over the escalating tensions, the Islamic Republic of Iran expressed its support for North Korea.

North Korea and Iran have been on friendly terms since the Iranian Revolution in 1979.

In September of 2012, the two nations signed an agreement to cooperate on “science technology and education,” which many sophisticated observers understood to mean that North Korea will be – indeed already is – assisting Iran on its path to nuclear weaponization.

A 2011 United Nations report said Iran and North Korea are suspected of sharing ballistic missile technology, and both have been sanctioned by the UN Security Council for their nuclear and ballistic missile programs.

Before you take this as gospel, i have not seen it on any of the major networks. Looking for link to the cnn, rt, aljazeera and bbc articles but yet to find anything.

I can't find the story anywhere else, seems like one source so we can assume it's BS unless you okes can find an article by the major players because this surely would be headline news. I know marine and alf will believe this story without checking up on it though.

O please we don't buy bread and milk from garages, we buy woolies bro. Wimpy, mugg and bean, debonairs etc. Sounds like you guys live in 1995 :D. Besides anyone who buys their daily cigi's from a corner cafe should really look at buying better. when you come to jhb you must feel like north koreans entering south korea :p

I buy from the trade center and i pay 38 bucks for a packet of 30, spar for instance one of the biggest chains in the country sells them for 44 and garages are closing in on 50 bucks. I buy cartons of 10, works out way cheaper. Ok you guys do have the ocean but that is ok, seeing the sea a couple times a year is good enough and it's nice to do something different. seeing it everyday may remove the excitement of the durban journeys

Has anyone fired a shot yet? Even accidentally?

This has got to be the most boring war ever.

Do you expect shots to fired straight away? There is no war at the moment. It's a possibility. Monday they test a missile reportedly tested by iran. Should be interesting.

This is foreplay. Did the iraq war happen over night?

hehe
What in heavens name would make you think we would have any reason whatsoever to go to a place like johannesburg in the first place.
If anything, we are more likely to feel like swiss tourists entering hillbrow at midnight. :D
