AFAIK rooting the phone will not outright void the warranty, however it will make it invalid if the failiure can be linked to the fact that it is rooted. ( Overheating, etc )

Regular hardware failiure is still covered.

I disagree. It is explicitly stated in the warranty documentation that rooting voids the warranty. If you however re-flash your stock firmware there is very little evidence that proves the device was rooted. That said, good luck re-flashing a hardware-bricked phone.
