Official Rugby World Cup 2015 Thread

I'm in two minds over the game coming Saturday.

The Boks have the players able to do it. However, our tactical kicking is a complete mess. Willie doesn't bring any flare to the back line no more like he used to. Kriel seems very quiet for some reason, Damien seems to be doing all the work.

For us to stand a chance the following must happen:

. Our tactical kicking should go out at all costs.
We can't afford to give NZ fee possession.

. We need to run the ball at the back and hope Kriel and Willie pitches up on Saturday.

I can't fault our forwards they have been having a brilliant RWC. The back 6 seems to be the problem atm. This game Saturday in essence is SA's final. If they win Saturday they [-]can[/-] will win the RWC. But it's going to take a miracle tbh.

They played amazingly. They got into those rucks like beasts possessed. If they can keep that up, they sure as hell have a chance.
 
Whatever the excuses of 'hindsight' etc and that "it looked offside in live action", the referee should never make a decision he is unsure of that can influence the outcome of a game within the last few minutes.
You know with 2 min left, and with Scotland in possession, that the most likely thing the Aussies are looking for is a penalty against Scotland within kicking range.

In such a situation, it is absolutely poor refereeing to award a penalty from such broken play, when he had to be absolutely certain that the ball came off a Scot.

However, here is where the cynical hat comes in, a view I have had before this.

The IRU draw was in order to give England the best possible route. Had things gone their way, they would have been in semis against Argentina. One of SA or NZ have to knock the other out. However, that blew up in their faces big time. So now the Aussies had that position, and the IRU would have been absloutely crapping themselves at the possibility of an Argentina- SA/NZ final.
You can fill in the dots...but winning penalties in last minute are not common.

I don't think he was unsure about his decision, as soon as the ball went 'forward' he had his arm out for advantage, and it turned into a penalty when the aussies complained. In his mind it was already a knock on, before the offside Scottish player touched the ball.
 
Also, remember that Joubert could NOT refer it to the TMO. He made the call as he saw it, and what he saw seems fair and reasonable. Even frame-by-frame analysis isn't absolutely clear.

+1, that and the fact that all of this assumes that Australia would not have got a try, penalty or drop goal from the subsequent attacking scrum.

+2. He called it like he saw it. Can't blame the guy for that.
 
On other matters, All Blacks looked ridiculously good, but they have yet to be tested in a truly tight game - Saturday is going to be epic.
 
Tough luck the Scots.

As for the call it was one that took balls to make.
In more cases than not with something as tight as that you would get a play on call. You see this often enough with restarts and garryowen.

Joubert must've had 100% clear site to make the call.
Still, leave a bitter taste though.

As for the Ozzies, meh.
Funny thing with them, 10 minutes to go and up on points they can't scrum for love or money, constant restarts and collapses., run down the clock.
5 minutes later and down on points they are pushing the scots off the ball.

I really don't like their attitude to the game, its been like this for years.

The Argies have been playing some great rugby, the Ozzies are going to be in for a formidable fight. If the officials police the scrums correctly, the Ozzies are doomed.

As for us, if any team can beat the All Blacks its us. The odds may be against us based on form but on the day itself is all that counts.
They will not have it all their own way and its going to be bone crushing.

I think it will be a great contest. South African defence should be an order of magnitude above France's.

They have injury concerns over Crockett and Milner-Skudder, while we're worried about Bismarck and Lood...

On the selection front I haven't been entirely convinced by Barrett this tournament. Granted he hasn't played that much but when he has he didn't do that much. Perhaps Slade might be a better choice - solid as houses and can cover flyhalf, wing and fullback.
 
Anyone else think that Lambie might be a better option at fullback in a tight game that an iffy Willie Le Roux?

Yup, think Slade is the better all round player for a tight game.
 
The All Blacks have had a nice easy world cup thus for... hopefully they've forgotten how to play with everything they have. Hopefully we are not too exhausted from giving it all we've got just to save face after the Japan game.

Phipps admitted: ‘I think everyone was trying to win the ball. We were all going for it.’

The media and level 4 couch potatoes twisted the above statement that Phipps admittedly stated that his intention was to play the ball.
