My basis for support is simple.

In the Super 14, the Sharks get my support. Obviously if it is another SA team playing a foreign team, the SA team get my support as long as their winning is not detrimental to my teams chances. If it is two SA teams, then my support is for the one who by winning favours my team. In the Super 14 final, where it made no difference to my team, I repeatedly claimed to be at a loss of who to support. On Facebook I claimed I'd support the ref (as it was it seems he won ;) ), on here I claimed Stormers based on my dislike for Bulls supporters :D If there was only one SA team in the final my support would have been with that team.

In the world cup, my support is with SA. Thereafter I will support any African team. Thereafter I really do not care much. I'll probably just be watching for a successful tournament. England doing well will be good for tourist arrivals in this country so perhaps them but then I could not bear to listen to the English gloating for years to come (a bit like the Bulls supporters).

On Facebook I claimed I'd support the ref...

Thinking it through, he was probably the guy who most needed the support. The ref was on a hiding to nothing. Stormers win ... Bulls berate him! Bulls win ... Stormers berate him (which they did anyway). A draw ... both sides berate him. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

My reasoning for picking a team to support is pretty much exactly the same as yours. Some people on here might call it their "second teams" though.

I'm sure the IRB/SANZAR will say interest in rugby/super14 is a win for all rugby fans. :p

NOT! A draw would never happen - it would come down to several things if the score ended the same after extra time. And BULLS supporters do not blame refs. Just as much as rugby supporters do not blame refs. People from all walks often use the ref as the scapegoat for the failure of their side to establish and protect a lead, just like the sharkies earlier this season. You do not deserve to win if you have less than one score lead. You need two to protect your lead and take appropriate on-field action when a decision does not favour you.

Me, I have to agree with that LUKEWATSON Lancelot - a second team is much like a second wife when you already got one - eventually, she'll nail the bodyguard. Oh, wait, different topic.

Actually in re-reading your post it did sound like a different way of saying the same thing :)

Yeah, but I suppose I didn't express it very verbosely - I was just in a hurry to go watch the Baa-Baas game to see if Brits did anything special.:p

At least the Stormers now know something that the Bulls don't...... what it's like to lose in a Super Rugby final. :)

You have something in common with the Sharks then... ;)

For me, picking a side to support in a game adds to the excitement (when the result doesn't impact my first choice team). I'm not going to go out and buy some horns or a naf bumper sticker of a Selachimorpha, but there is always a side I'd rather have winning. In the SWC coming up, if your team gets knocked out in the first round, pick another and go with it, otherwise you might as well just shut it all out. My wife on the other hand will usually always choose to support the side that the majority of the people present don't support. Now that's irritating. :p:love:

Nothing wrong with picking a 2nd team to support after your team has fallen out. It beats the hell out of logging into myBB & blaming everyone besides your team & making sour remarks to everyone, like some we know...
