I'm not counting my chickens mate... our new signings have a history of taking long to adapt.
 
Torres wouldnt need to adapt. His game is cut out for the EPL. The Brazilian might just get homesick.

Funny thing though... it's usually the hardmen from Brazil that DON'T whine and moan. Ramires, Alex, Gilberto Silva... Which is why I really hope we don't buy Neymar. He can piss off to Spain the git.

EDIT: Torres was the darling of Atletico/Madrid. Here at Chelsea he needs to compete with Dr. Ogba.

Torres had an inpact even before donning a Chelsea shirt. He scared Anelka into form.

He forced Carlo to change his team and make Anelka play deeper. Anelka has always been better as a deeper lying forward than as an out 'n out striker/winger anyway. He's not scared... at all. The good thing is that it didn't even drive Anelka to cast off his Le Sulk persona... that happened in the last two seasons.
 
Tough one tomorrow night. All I can hope is that the goals are few, then we get them on the return leg.

Gattuso is a disgrace!!! UEFA have to throw the book at him. there's no place for players like in him in football. If he doesn't get a min 4 match ban I will be shocked. remember what Drogba did?
 
With Mathieu Flamini having somehow escaped being sent off after an horrendous two-footed tackle on Vedran Corluka - who left the stadium on crutches - it was an evening when the Champions League turned ugly. Flamini later went into the Spurs dressing room to apologise and he shook hands with the Croat who accepted the gesture.

However Corluka himself said: “Should he have been sent off? No, he should have been sent to jail.”

Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp called for Uefa to take action over the challenge. “Gattuso lost his head,” he said. “He got very uptight late in the game but the tackle was the worst part. It was horrendous. Two footed, off the floor, a leg-breaking tackle.”

Gattuso also apologised: “I’m sorry for the head-butt. It was my responsibility and I shouldn’t have done it. I will wait for Uefa’s decision. I spoke to Joe Jordan during the game but I won’t reveal what was said. I have no problem with the [Spurs] players.” He then added jokingly: “I spoke to Jordan in Scottish. I don’t want to say what we argued about but it was my mistake.”

Redknapp added of Gattuso’s behaviour: “Joe was ready. He’d taken his glasses off at the end of the game. I don’t know why it got so silly. Gattuso had a flare-up with Joe Jordan. I don’t know why. He obviously hadn’t done his homework. He could’ve picked a fight with somebody else. Putting his head into Joe’s face, it was crazy.”

The incidents over-shadowed a strong performance by Spurs on a glory, glory night of European football which descended into an evening of shame for the competition’s seven-time winners.

Gattuso was at the centre of everything that was wrong. He engaged in a running battle with Peter Crouch and earlier clashed with Jordan on the touchline, pushing him in the face, as the match spilled over with a series of poor challenges by the desperate Italians.

Gattuso - stripped of his shirt and raging with anger – also appeared to aim a punch at Spurs’ unused substitute Sebastien Bassong and the pair then clashed again as they walked down the tunnel. Earlier both players had tussled in a skirmish after the final whistle.

Amazingly Gattuso had swapped shirts and shaken hands with Luka Modric before heading for the Spurs dug-out. Rednapp also shook his hand - and then Gattuso challenged Jordan and butted him before being pulled away by one of the Milan coaches and then blocked by Flamini.

Milan coach Massimo Allegri initially attempted to brush aside the controversy, claiming that a tackle by Wilson Palacios on Gattuso - which left the midfielder with heavy strapping on his leg - had been as bad as Flamini’s. However when challenged, Allegri admitted of his captain: “There should be a reason for it but no excuse.”

Uefa will launch an investigation into the events and with Gattuso already banned from the second leg at White Hart Lane - following his yellow card for a poor tackle on Steven Pienaar - the midfielder can expect to be absent for much longer. His behaviour was not snarling, not aggressive but simply out-of-control. His reputation may go before him but this was unacceptable and will not go unpunished.

Gattuso is well into his 30s and wears the captain armband and is still regarded as essential to the Milan cause but this was a night when his long career appeared to catch up on this heavy-jawed gargoyle who was once ridiculed by Steven Gerrard, after the 2005 Champions League final. For all his growling, Gerrard said, Gattuso was a kitten rather than a tiger.

The Italian played poorly as well. As with Clarence Seedorf, another of the Milan players well into his thirties, the game was simply too quick for him.

When he wasn’t barrelling into rash challenges he was slapping the turf in frustration. In a career that has taken this man from Italy’s south, via Glasgow Rangers, to Lombardy he has worn his heart on his sleeve and raised his arms far too often - also pushing Crouch in face in a moment that also went unchallenged.

The recriminations for his behaviour will continue for sometime. He may rage at perceived injustices and there may be a sense of annoyance at the club for this defeat - certainly the second-leg will be a meeting for cooler heads - but in that cold light of day he needs to look at his own conduct.

Gattuso has cultivated a sense of difference throughout his career. On Tuesday night he was marked out for being unacceptable also. It is now up to Uefa to act.
