Official Xbox360 Discussion/News Thread.

just a quick one here ppl: is no one posting on the "xbox360 faq" thread cos (not so secretly) no one wants to see FN's name erased from the forum...or our hearts??...pffft

it's only supposed to consist of fact/info/help posts, no questions and what not ..... that's why ;)

So I need some advice. I want to buy an XBOX 360 but I'm not really sure if i should go for the PRO or Elite. Is The additional R800 really worth it for an additional 60GB and HDMI cable and a black console?
BTW. the guys at CNA told me that it comes with any 2 free games...true?

i would say that a choice between the elite and pro depends solely on your expected use of the harddrive. do you intend to install every game?? using ur box as a media centre and plan to dump every mp3/avi in the world on it?? the go elite. the price of broadband kinda kills our access to the gigs of downloadable content on live so all in all, if you jus wanna go online and download the occasion extra content, go pro.

For R800 extra, I'd trump up for the elite...

Just to future proof yourself in the small chance that our broadband actually becomes usable and cheap... Plus of course you can install all the games to the HDD and you get an HDMI connection, which is something I wish my pro had since I've got like 4 HDMI inputs on my tv.... and all the other normal inputs are now being used.

I decided on the 360 elite. After hunting everywhere IC in cresta had stock. Bought it on sunday, used it yesterday.

I turned it on this morning and I get the three red lights (RROD) already???:mad:

Phoned IC, said they are willing to give me a replacement or my cash back. witch do I choose. Do I really need this s***t after 2 days of gaming?

Wow,bummer dude. I'm sure you can immediately get a swop-out though.
I'm saying this with some trepidation as it really is a "360 only" thread, BUT ,alternatively, ask for your money back and get a PS3. More expensive, but a hell of a lot more reliable.

Sorry to hear that Confu3ed, as long as the replacement is a brand spanking new elite, then take the console, thats what you had your mind set on in the first place.

Did you plug in the power brick properly? If the pins don't connect properly there's a blip in power and this makes the console go into RROD (a protection mode if you wish).

If a replug doesn't work, then sure - go for a refund/swap out!

After reading Kerrrang's post I was about to post something negative. But this post calmed me down.

+1 Churchill :)

OK just came home from IC, returned the console + extra control + game. for a full cash refund. Now I'm back to square one. do I buy an XBOX 360, PS3.
Personally these are my pros and cons for each console"
XBOX 360
Pro's: Cheaper (not for long), easy to use.
Cons: RROD...(within 2 days of purchase!!!!) games expensive (compared to PC). Have to subscribe to XBOX live!. Noisy

PS3
Pro's: Blu ray, free online gaming. Wifi. Rumored to be the better console. silent
Cons: Not so easy to use(haven't tried it personally, just notice from reading the forums) Expensive (not for long)

PS: These are in no way proven, they are based on personal experiences and general comments read online.

Hmm, I smell a conspiracy, a friend of mine just bought an elite from IC somewhere around there (clanmate, didn't say where exactly), but it also RRoD'd out the box, he took it back and only then noticed the first one had been opened before.

You think IC Cresta are recycling an RRoD box for some reason?

Geezuz, why does mah Xbox thread have to be used for PS3 shyte

Well, you've nailed the pro's and con's pretty accurately, but i'll add 1 more for each:

360: May scratch discs sporadically, though this is by no means a given. My Gears 1 copy is unfortunately unplayable due to it being scratched by my 360.
PS3: Annoyingly large firmware updates that range anything from 115 - 135 mb.

It's still your choice, but as someone who owns both, i would unreservedly suggest the PS3. ;)

Demo model they're selling?

Or maybe it's an old returned Xbox 360.

It's a common practice overseas, to return a 360 to the shop for a refund/swap where the guts (internals) have been swapped out. Say your faulty / Live banned 360 internals swapped with the recently bought 360.

You go back to Walmart (common store for this fraudulent activity) and you say, "I just bought this and it doesn't work. Here's my receipt, can I have my $$$ back please".

I'm not saying this is the case at IC. Could just be coincidence ;)

a friend is letting me test drive his ps3 for the holidays, and i will do my utmost to try/finish the games he has (10 i think?). has a bluetooth ray disc as well, and i will try online as well. i want to see if Kerrang is biased or accurate in his "recommendations" :D

Sweet! Maybe you should create a blog and have daily entries for us to follow.

Sounds like he has all 10 games available on the PS3 :p

Good luck ;)
