This morning was the second morning in a row where I had no connection.

My firewall is hooked up to beep when it goes offline and reboot.

Yesterday morning, at about 5.30am (I usually wake up around this time) I heard the server beep and reboot. Anyway, up until I left home at 7.50am I couldn't connect to either 66 (hyde park) or 82 (randburg metro) - these are the two towers I can hook up to.
Yes - I tested with the standard USB cable and the MyWireless dialer and got the "Remote computer did not respond" & "Network not available: please try again later" messages.
Signal was as normal.

I thought nothing of it - just a glitch. The connection was fine when I got home. I've no idea how long it was offline for.

This morning, also at around 5.30am the connection once again went down. This time I could only "see" tower 66, but could not connect - left home at 8am.

I'm wondering if this is a total co-incidence, or if it's maintenance ?

I've got no beef with a bit of maintenance disconnecting me every now and then, but if this is what it was, it's damn irritating to be offline from 7am till 8am - I like to eat breakfast, check email and surf some news before work. Maintenance past 7am in the morning is not a good thing !

Hope it doesn't happen again tommorrow morning !

"at about 5.30am (I usually wake up around this time)"

Theres' your problem rght there. I didn't even realise they had a 5;30 in the morning anymore. Anyone who wakes up then is just asking for trouble!!

;)

Yes, tower 50 (northcliff) also went off this morning

Well, when I say I'm usually awake at 5.30am, I don't actually magage to prise myself out of bed until 7.00am :)

Wireless2 - must be some sorta maintenence on some of the towers then - I guess they are trying not to disrupt peoples service by trying to get it done real early in the morning - who knows.

At least I'm online at home now - lucky, because I need to get some online work done !

Rather than starting a new topic on this, I've just noticed that someone else was offline this morning with a reason of "Scheduled Maintenance" - the BSD/PPPoE thread.

Now don't get me wrong here - I don't want to start moaning about this if it's not going to be a regular occurance, but is it normal to have Scheduled maintenance on a weekday morning right up until after 8am ?

Of course, I've no idea if it was scheduled maintenance (I'll phone tomorrow if I have the same problem again) and I dought I'd ever be able to find out.

If Sentech do schedule maintenance during office hours/just before office hours, that's a big problem !
It's common courtesy to contact your clients to tell them when maintenance is going to occur if it will be during office hours - every ISP I've been with that has 24/7 contracts does this - that would include IS, Datapro and Tiscali. They email clients prior to maintenance to tell them when it will occur.

Who knows tho. Maybe it's just a glitch in the Matrix... [xx(]

I totally agree...we do that...from my experience, when things actually break, a good excuse is normally that it is scheduled maintenance.

Why do most IT related companies think communication with customers is not required in this industry? We are IT and you will put up with our crap because that is the way it is. Has anyone ever stopped to think that without customers or users, they would be out of a job...

bb mat, Where are you located if u don't mind? I get 66 and 82 all the time but cannot connect to either - only 12 when I tweak the Patch mm by mm do I connect (and get dropped often)?

My connection is usually very stable. It's just recently I've had these morning disconnections.

also having problems with connecting this morning
towers in question. 66 and 12

Ditto. Couldn't connect this morning. Tower 12.

I wonder if I should log the amount of time I'm off and request a pro-rata discount from Sentech?

Heya

It would seem the Microwave link on Tower 12 is going down repeatedly.

The "scheduled maintenance" is actually unscheduled but hey... guess ppl get it wrong all the time

The call centre are getting e-mail concerning this - problem is that the end users are not ... If in doubt phone them ;-)
