Hey guys,

I hope you're all doing well. You know these Garmin GPS devices right? They direct you to your destination but they don't need data. ( As far as I know ).

I'm looking for an Android app that works as a GPS but that doesn't use data as you're driving and it's directing you. I'm looking for something that...

You can download maps and use them offline ( Map updates I suspect will cost but thats fine )

I'm not sure how Goodle Maps works, really, I'm an idiot. I'm not sure if it uses data. Just looking for something that I can use to direct me to my destination that doesn't need data ( GPS's connect to satellites correct? ).

Hopefully after you're done laughing at my ignorance you can maybe suggest an app I could use? :)

Thx a lot guys! ( I'm using Android 7 )

Google maps has an "Offline maps" option. You select an area and it can be used to navigate without data. It has to be updated once a month I think but it's all free.

Thank you, I'll try that. I'm in the Western Cape ( Northern Suburbs ). If I drive from Goodwood to someone's house in Durbanville for instance, I just want to enter the physical address and as I drive the app tells me where to turn etc, offline.

Just like those Garmin GPS thingies.

Here maps app. You can download country or continental maps. Obviously with offline use you do not get the benefit of real time traffic updates for rerouting via least time route.

It also shows you the speed limit and you can set it to warn you if you exceed limit by a certain %.

Sygic. It's a paid app with a 7 day trial period. Once you have downloaded a country map you can use it offline.

Hey guys,

Just wanted to let everyone know that this app was the one that I was looking for and the one that really helped me. Offline mode and everything.

Thank you so much to everyone.
