I need 250cc buying tips.

Yep, watched too many Nitro Circus episodes, lived on a small holding and brother-in-law lives/owns a farm. What more can I say...

Decided, since I'm very very inexperienced on bikes to opt for a secondhand (maybe new) 250cc 'Scrambler' for offroad use only.

I need some advice regarding:

1.) What do I need to look out for when checking the bike (I know the procedures for checking secondhand cars, but bikes...).

2.) How expensive is fixing/redoing the engine, repairs to the brakes etc.

3.) Do I need to get a licence even if I will only ride offroad?

4.) Registration and licence for the bike - use offroad only.

Already wishlisted a bunch of cool (or should I say sick, or narly) gear!

1. check www.edirt.co.za for buying tips
2. depends if the engine is 2 stroke or 4 stroke, 2 stroke is easier to work on and cheaper than 4 stroke
3. no you do not need a bike licence to ride offroad
4. the new e-natis system requires you to licence a offroad bike, thus you will have to pay the annual fee like a car, you dont have to enatis/register the bike, but then you will have problems trying to insure the bike.
