The truth is ALL broadband sucks at the moment.
At my mom's place she's got DSL. At least 1 week of every month her DSL is down. The Telkom Techies have admitted that there are not enough lines available and they just keep shifting it around, so somewhere in Roodekrans someone will always be withou a Telkom line.
The latest is "they take the 'good' lines". My mom was told by the Telkom techies (more that one confirmed this) that people het them out to give them the "good" lines. I suppose it's the ones with the least amount of noise, I dunno.
This week was my moms turn without DSL so she borrowed my Neotel. The speed really sucked at her house but at least she could check email. (She runs a business from home, so internet is critical). This week she decided that enough is enough and bougth a 3G modem. Wow, that sucked the worst of all 3 options. So she had Neotel, DSL and 3G and not one delivered on their promises!!!
I'm happy with my Neotel. I know there are tons of ppl that aren't. Until business practices change in this country we'll never see anything better.
