hopefully heaven but probably hell
Looks like I am in a DARK GREEN area with regards to iBurst... YUM... 1MB/s

Cant wait to personally shove this Sucktech modem up managements ass while they
cancel my contract...

myWireless 128, 64, 48, 16 - depends on its mood.

i bet you as soon as everyone gets iburst they will enforce a horrible cap or throttling and speeds will be good for ppl who dont download huge files

well... Sentech suck. I think at this point in time if Telkom is better
then Sentech then iBurst should be better then Sentech...

besides... 2.5K international on Sentech in all honesty what have I got to lose?

you must remember. Say iBurst get 1000 clients at 1:10 contention ratio.
At 1Mbps they need to buy 100MB bandwidth!!! To sustain the ratio.
I think they'll need BIG investments to sustain that while they get more clients.

Does anyone know what the actual contention ratio is that iBurst is going to offer?

I won't hold my breath for iBurst just yet. Check back in 12 months (ala Sentech)

256k ... BAH..more like 25.6k
FSCK YOU Sentech!! [:(!]

Methinks the iBurst guys are potentially far more competent than Sucktech, for the simple reason that they've successully managed the Lotto network thus far. They also appear to be approaching the issue in the correct manner, i.e. thorough testing and amenable to at least listening to prospective clients, prior to roll-out. They should also offer ProAsm a job, to increase their customer goodwill. However, the proof of the pudding, and all that...

probably speaking too soon, as we all know speed dies when you proclaim this, but I actually have 512k international downloads going atm

multithreaded yes, but at least i'm getting more than the 128k i'm used to....

how the **** do you get iburst, while I, a very vocal and very much paying 512k customer, have invited iburst to make me one of their testers as I KNOW what to compare things to...

9 years on the internet and I get repaid by a big f-u

"Does anyone know what the actual contention ratio is that iBurst is going to offer?"

Question was asked and skirted around at their launch in Sandton. But by their definations and graphs anything under 400Kbs is "narrowband"

my speeds have been running semi constant for more than 24 hours now (45kb/s plus) but very spikey. Just waiting for a torrent or two to finish and Im going to start with single threaded tests

Something has definately changed on the 256k platform in the last 24 hours. International is now spikey. However, speedtest from bandwidthplace.com are still ***. It almost looks like they may have made the transparent proxy ignore the --nocache option?

Headend, not sure, try running multithreaded downloads and see what speed you get, I have the suspicion when I do my single threaded tests it would still suck

Just got 21 KBps on a single thread from download.com using wget with --no-cache set.

Multi-thread FTP from download.com gets ± 5 KBps

Multi-thread HTTP gets ± 25 KBps [:)] (May be cached on their proxy)

All this on a 256K package. Perhaps the link upgrade that was done this morning on Mintech has helped!
