I've never understood need for all the fuss. One bullet, finished and klaar. Hell of a lot cheaper too.

It is messy and especially if there is a viewing audience as is the case with these executions then it is easier to have somebody quietly slip away...

Firing squad is best. No high costs or mess. They could even arrange a mechanical firing squad so there is less human feelings involved.
 
Well he has been in prison for twice as long as most SA criminals who have much worse criminal records and whom SA will consider "rahabilitated".
 
oh dear he gasped for about 10 minutes. how long did his poor victim gasp for. i'm sure she died a more painful death than he did. just a pity it didn't take longer for him to gasp.

Guillotine. Only humane method with a 100% success rate. And just messy enough that its not used too easily.
Lethal Injection and Electrocution takes too long. Both cases the prisoner takes 5 or more minutes to die. Hanging is too complex - too easy to get the rope length or placement wrong. Traditionally most firing squad executions have a senior officer admitting a coup de grace shot to make sure the prisoner is dead.
Chopping his head off is fast, 100% effective. The brain loses consciousness within 5 seconds or less. Brain functioning stops completely in about 30.

.50 round, dispensed from short range at the base of the skull, instant decapitation along with massive trauma to ensure death is as near to instant as possible.
