Three months ago I applied for ADSL I was told a month later they where waiting for Ports(Not Available)...Two months down the line...Still no ports available...Three months down the line Ports are available but now have to be asigned....One week ago:

Phoned Telkom: After 20 min: "I would like to find out the progress of my ADSL, here is the Ref No:xxxx" "Just hold on" I held on for 10 mins and realised I was cut off... I dialled again 20 min later "I would like to find out the progress of my ADSL and this time please don't cut me off, here is the Ref No:xxxx" "Just hold on" "Oh yes there are ports available still waiting for port asign" OH! but I must tell you that there's another platform" "What platform" "It's called the CMU or (CNU)" "Whats that, "It's when Telkom have to bring it closer" "I don't want Telkom Closer I want ADSL"... Call centre said they had phoned me to give me an update but They never made a single phone call to me otherwise I would not have phoned them...

Now I would like to ask anyone out there, What is this UMC or UNC all about and is this the final platform before I get ADSL?...OR is there still something else?...Thanks

I have applied five times in almost Three and a half years of waiting for ADSL and still counting...

Just bye yourself an iburst it's pretty good if you have network coverage were you are

Hi, UMC (AFC UMC 1000E) is the hardware telkom uses to supply you the DSL service from a Local street cabinet or small exchange. It provides the (Digital) local loop which is your phone service and with the right cards in the shelf your Adsl service as well.
