As you all know my previous boss asked me leave with a nice letter. Right now I am doing well fixing **** around the area. Being a handyman pays reasonably well. But it is not going to last forever. My body is out of shape I am old and energy limited. When I get home I need to sleep a lot.

Now sure I need blood test other tests and the doctors will be all to happy to charge me for it. I don't think I am sick I am just tired and I am working like I am in my early 20s. What I now need is to learn important stuff. Stuff that is technical and involves a lot of home automation, coding and more. It is not going to be easy I know this.

I need an edge, if you are on Nootropics how does it work for you. Also I am looking for the stuff I need a prescription for. I want it to work so that I can keep myself and my family going. Is anyone on this medication and is it as good as they say it is? Last thing I need is or want is to become more stupid.

So serious discussion, what did it do for you? what are the cost? and is it something you will recommend?

Not what I was hoping for because now I have to look at Coffee again that cost more then most medications. I need to destress, I have no idea how to do that and a good night's sleep? I do suffer from insomnia so that is going to be a tuff one.

Have used Provigil (Modafinil) before and that definitely gave me the edge. The bad is, I hardly slept while using it, even if I swallowed the pill at 4am.
Best you speak to your GP though, get the necessary health check and take it from there.

Long story short, if I were you, list Goals you wish to achieve for the week, break it down by day, then break your daily goal into segments.

Start your day with a routine, i.e
• Wake up 5am, drink glass of cold water
• 20 x 5 pushups, 30 x 5 situps. 5-10 mins skip rope
• Drink coffee/milo/fruit juice
• Shower + get dressed
• Start on segment 1 and work for 30-60 mins, take a break
• Start on segment 2 etc.

By breaking what you need to do into smaller goals or segments, things become easier and next thing you know, you have acheived what you need to do. Good Ruck!

Feeling sluggish and as if the brain is 'cloudy' has a lot to do with one's diet in my experience. Avoid sugars and starches as much as possible and get loads of veggies and proteins in with lots of water. Do not e.g. drink fruit juices; way too much sugars. Eat limited fruit to limit sugar intake too. I also limit coffee to 2 cups a day. Your fasting time should be at least 12 hours (between a light dinner and a good breakfast). You'll feel the difference in a week.

One cannot poison one's body and try to remedy that with supplements. Stop the cause and the need for supplements falls away.

Coffee does not wake you up or make you more alert.
Do what @newklear laid out(besides the coffee) for a couple of months and you’ll feel sharper.
Provided you don’t have some underlying issue of course.

This, I feel so much better since I cut sugar, refined carbohydrates and seed oils out of my diet.

10,000 steps a day will do wonders to your body and mind. Preferably somewhere nice, out in nature.

As far as coding and home automation goes, pick a simple project and learn what you need to complete it. Then pick the next one. Don't overwhelm yourself by trying to learn the A to Z of some programming language before you get down to work.

Enjoy the nootropic rabbit-hole that will spit you out right back where you currently are, minus a bunch of money spent. Eat clean, move regularly, sleep well and you'll be far further than what pills will get you.

Ritalin/concerta/methylphenidate will give you an edge, it will give you energy and focus and make your mind feel overclocked and able to do anything. It's available only on prescription. It's expensive, maybe R1k per month or so. I wouldn't recommend it.

Go to the Dr, get the tests done. It’ll say you money long term.

Supplements are usually just going to make your pee glow in the dark, not much else of value.

ritalin when your not ADHD/ADD isnt a great idea IMO,
especially if you dont have that condition and take it it will mess you up.

Stress had a massive impact on my cognitive skills, to the point that I could not read instructions in emails, messages and documents.

Something as simple as buying from a grocery shopping list was a challenge. I could not hold a conversation and everything was taking days instead of hours to complete.

As my job requires me to constantly learn new things every day, I was thinking of retiring early and preparing for a life of dementia.

Then I ended up at my doctor, was placed on Stresam and Prozak. While waiting to get moved up the waiting list to be admitted to a mental ward, I did some (spiritual) therapy, learn't to set boundaries and looked after myself. I also joined my local SADG support group.

Within days of initial medication my focus was amazing, the best in decades. Then with the self-care it just got better. I'm stress free with my anxiety feelings being few and transient. My therapist introduced me to non-prescription alternatives for my cognitive recovery.

I'm now learning new things all the time, going from fearing I would have an early onset of dementia to planning on being active well into my 80's, even 90's. This all in the past six months.

All of this caused by years of stress and anxiety.

My medication bill for the month is R500: Nuzak (Prozac generic) and over the counter Release_SCE advanced (natural sceletium based medication with a lot of good vitamins)

When I need a mental boost, I take the Relase_SCE liquid, we call it Gummy Berry Juice in our house.

Edit: I have not been admitted to mental ward as I no longer need it. From my doctor, therapist to spouse have given me feedback on my rapid recovery.

Bloody good to hear the good news. Keep at it and don't give up!
