Where do all the old cars go? I hardly see any cars older then 10-12 years! What happens to cars older then that? Is it worthwhile to keep a car longer then that?

There is life beyond joburg, where people still drive 1984 Toyota cressida's

They are often to be found in more rural areas or less afluent areas since they are affordable to those residents. But I see many conquests and older golfs and unos and other older cars on may daily PTA to JHB commute.

Hey! My Audi is almost 10 years old and it's still in damn good shape.

Yep, but very few older cars around... Where do all the others go??

For example at the end of 2003 there were so many corollas of that year model... Where are they all now? Does South Africa send them maybe to another country after a certain amount of years?

Ok, since you pay no attention to what we said in this response (and we have just said how to often enough see 10 to 20yo cars), please tell us where you are located?

I'm In natal , north coast and travel to a lot of rural areas.... There are mostly new cars there... Very few old ones.... It seems as though they are moving it up too

No, we are not Japan or like the other countries where keeping a old car is very expensive due to taxes and such. They are in places where they are cheaper as I have said. and I see them around. I was just noticing a lot of 2005 cars today (GP number place starting with a S is 2005, thats 8 years old).

So if you are in gauteng just keep an eye out for any number plates starting with P or older and that should be 10 years or more. There a lot running about isn't there? ;)

Up until a few weeks ago I was driving a 1986 Toyota Corolla. Served me well for 8 years.

I drive a '66 car most days and see plenty of cars aged from '54 up until '74, and some modern tin, but that may just be because we're into classic cars and have a fair nunber of them around here. :D Hehe.

They had over 3000 old and classic cars at zwartkops over the weekend.

So while drivng to work I was paying attention to number plates today, I saw many (~20%) cars with P-and-older GP numberplates which means they are 10 or more years old. Then there were a handful that were old with new number plates. And then a whole lot were in the 7 to 9 year range (S to W range). There are a whole lot of new cars with the new number plate range too.

I still own my ’93 Toyota Camry 220si, use her to traverse between work and home, not expensive to upkeep at all compared to the other two newer (2008+) vehicles. The only problem with her is the body paint which seems not to be lasting any longer, otherwise not worth selling… Plus I can bully her on sites and she takes that abuse quite well.

This morning alone between Gordon’s Bay and Somerset West I could have counted at least 10 similar shaped Toyota Camry’s.

How bad is it? Maybe a light buff & polish would bring her back to life else a new spray job.
