I just bought a new Sony Bravia 40" TV and can not install my DSTV Dual View Decoder. I have no idea what colour wires go where. I'm a complete techno dinosaur so any help in the simplest of language would be soooo gratefully received. Cheers

Just plug an AV cord in to the AV both sides and select AV on the TV ( 3 plugs )
Match the colors on the AV both sides

OK thanks don't really know what an AV cord is but I've bought 2 cords both the same with 3 plugs on each end - red, yellow & white. Is this an AV cord? Problem is, I don't know where to plug them in to the DSTV box or the telly as I don't understand the symbols on the box or the telly. Pathetic eh?

I've tried various sockets on the box and on the telly but when I try to get the telly to tune in, it says that it can't find a signal after it has completed it's search

You will probably need to change the "source" to AV on the TV remote.

Yellow - Video out
Red - audio right channel
Black (or white) audio left channel

If you are using component video instead of composite video (the single yellow plug), then it is Pr(R), Pr(B) and Y into matching sockets for the video only. The audio always uses 2 cables

If I recall correctly, the Dual View DSTV decoder has a SCART plug at the back for TV AND VCR outputs. You can get a SCART to S-Video & RCA adaptor and a S-Video cable from most audio-video dealers.

You then connect the S-Video cable (instead of the yellow RCA Video cable) and Audio RCA cables (White / Red) to the TV set AFTER you have first changed the DSTV Dual View output in the Advanced settings Menu (password is 9949) from composite to S-video.

This will give you an appreciable improvement in the picture quality over the signal provided by the yellow composite video RCA cable.

You will have to select the S-VIDEO setting on your TV set instead of the AV1 or VIDEO1 setting to receive the signal from the DSTV Dual View Decoder.

If you are going to just use the 3 RCA - 3 RCA cables instead of the above suggestion, then if you want to use the DSTV remote to adjust the TV volume instead of using the TV remote, first adjust the TV set to the required MAXIMUM volume setting you are comfortable with, press MUTE on the TV remote (to prevent speaker damage when changing audio cables) then put the White / Red cables into the back of the DSTV Dual View sockets marked VARIABLE AUDIO.

Now press MUTE again on the TV remote to restore the TV sound - from now on you can leave the TV set at the set volume level, and use the volume up / down and MUTE buttons on the DSTV remote instead to control your preferred volume settings!
