I have heard that there is a problem with the Vierkleur being flown outside Paul Kruger's house in Tshwane - does anyone know if there are regulations around what flags you can fly in public

AFAIK - flying the old South African flag is frowned upon, but not illegal - the Vierkleur is largely accepted as it was the flag of the Zuid Afrikaanse Republiek

I believe it is appropriate to fly outside Paul Kruger's house as he was the President of the ZAR - but there seems to be a move to have it removed

Does anyone know if there are laws, regulations or bylaws around flag flying

I suppose flying the Vierkleur is tantamount to flying the Confederate Flag: its purely of historical interest as it comes from a time long forgotten in the past. IMHO it has no real significance to anyone who is alive today.

Doubt there are laws against it. You can fly a swastika if you like as well, just wont be to popular.
In the apartheid era flags and stuff were banned but I doubt it is possible in the new setup.

The Swastika still drums up bad memories for many people. How many people do you know that were alive when Oom Paul was president?

In the context of Paul Kruger's house I can't see how there would be a problem with flying the Vierkleur.
There used to be a law which said that if you wanted to fly another country's flag you had to fly the SA flag alongside it.
No idea if this is still the case.

The Vierkleur outside Paul Kruger's house, is part of the history of that building. Removing the vierkleur, and replacing it with the new flag, will be just silly, in that it would not be a true reflection of history.

Boet, the ANC will go back a thousand years if they have to to 'address the wrongs of the past'.
The 4kleur hardly falls into a favorite flag category for them. Anything Afrikaner for that matter. Actually anything colonial as well.
The beamers and mercs are just smashing though ;)

Not really another country's flag is it now? a) its been replaced b) it is essentially from an area of South Africa.

I think my signature quote from 1984 sums it up: "If the Party could thrust its hand into the past and say this or that even,
it never happened—that, surely, was more terrifying than mere torture and death." The past happened, how can they deny that truth?
