Hi

I am trying to get some old software up and running. I have the recipe I used previously on various old distros (it's several 10s of thousands of lines of fortran, so line by line fiddling is not really an option).

I am pretty sure I managed to get it to run on Redhat 6.0 and definitely had it running on Mandrake 8.2. Unfortunately I can't find anywhere that archives distros this old.

Anyone able to help?

Henk

I'm sure I have Redhat 5 & 6 at home. Will let you know.

I have RH7.0 and Mandrake 7.2, Vector Linux 4.0 & 5.0 , Genoo 2005.0 and
Puppy linux (Linux Format magazine May 2000). Also FBSD 4.7

Can help you out if in Durban.

I also have a question about old Distros.. I think around 2000 I had redhat and that gnome came with a very different version of nautilus I think, was a little bloated but had lots of customization features and clean looking design...

think I gave an older RH away, it was good for removing Linux partitions in the win98 days

I still have Ubuntu 5 if you want it... from good 'ol 2005 still

I bought 'Linux for Dummies' a few years back and 3 CD's accompanied the book.
Red Hat Linux 7.0 (Guinness) Release Notes
Dated 1999/2000

I should try that on my Core2duo MB and see how far it gets :)

henkc, what are the requirements of the software? Many of the older applications require libc5, so that cuts out most distros from the last several years.

I think Telkom probably hosts every version of mandrake/mandriva out there. There's a guy who works there who makes it sound like God himself wrote every line of code in it. Unless they got rid of him too.

You can try the SAIX and IS ftp servers.... they tend to have a lot of outdated crap there.... and old distro's.....

Running an old distro on new hardware would be a nightmare imo.
Would think there's a method of taking that fortran recipe and converting it to say for e.g. python code.
