I am still sitting with my Sentech modem from the old Classic days.

My friend wants to get onto Sentech temporarily (until they get ADSL) and use me old modem.

Thus, will it run at the new 1Mbps speed or the speed when I bought it (128kbps)?

Modem is locked to account

I read somewhere in my contract that the modem is locked to the subscribers account and one cannot use someone else's username. This might be a sneaky way that sentech gets new customers to buy modems, but I suggest you check this first.

Can anyone confirm this?

Don't worry, the "old" classic modem can go up to 3Mbits/sec. I'm currently using the "old" one from classic days and I get 1mbits/sec speeds. Best of all: NO updates or changes need to be made to the modem.

And yes, I also read somewhere that the modem is registered to a specific user's name, thus only allowing that user to use the modem. I can't confirm this though as I've never tried it.

If 10 Sentech subscribers are willing to message me their user names and passwords I will logon with them and run a few download "tests" to make sure it works. :D

Sentech modems aren't user specific. They will blacklist stolen units, however. iBurst locks modems to specific accounts. Not MyWireless.
