Can an older printer be made wireless (namely bluetooth) my adding a "usb (A) female to type (B) male adapter converter" to the back port - and then connecting a bluetooth adapter?
HP Laptop is wireless and because of spacing, it would be easier if the printer was too. There's nothing wrong with the printer, so dont want to buy a new wireless / bluetooth printer...

Nope, your printer doesn't have the USB drivers installed to do that.

I highly doubt that you'll be able to make your printer wireless. You'll need very specialized equipment to convert the USB connection into a wireless connection.

Bluetooth is definitely not the answer you are looking for. But Google would probably have told you the answer:

Wireless USB

See e.g.

http://www.iogear.com/product/GUWH104KIT/
http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=628

While it seems that the technology has its problems (see the wiki article), and the links above refer to legacy or discontinued products, you may find that a ebay search will turn up something usable for your case.

Or even, that a bit more googling will tell you what replaced WUSB.

You get a few adsl routers which can connect to usb printer to share it on your wifi network. The +-R700 D-link does it.

There are also devices to attach a regular printer to a network, eg, network cable in the one side, printer usb in the other, which would then be connected to your wifi router and you could print wirelessly from the laptop.

Or connect the printer to an always on pc and share it, then you can also print wirelessly from the laptop.

I used a Gigabyte bluetooth adapter on a laser printer in the past. It worked well for printing, but not scanning back to the pc. I don't use it anymore and for a small amout would be willing to part. Pm me if you are interested

all the way from the bushveld.. . . .

as SJB, I too have used usb based bluetooth adapters designed for this specific purpose and they worked well enough for basic tasks. they do exist.
