I am a self-confessed Windows 2000 junkie.

A lot of my apps are older and I resent change wherever possible.

My personal machine runs W2K primarily (different partitions) and whilst I use a few gfx apps, my habits necessitate the usage of MS Paint for some things.

The Paint supplied with W2K does not allow saving to a .JPG format.

XPs does.

I've just tried copying an XP mspaint.exe to my W2K WINNT>System32 folder.

It worked.

...at first.

It was almost immediately and automatically replaced with a system-generated MSPAINT.EXE (different file size).

Back to square 1.

What do I need to hack to get W2K to recognize the XP version as the legit' version?

Someone somewhere must have been through this already...

Thanks.

interesting. what makes 2000 better than any other OS?

Haha. That's an infinite topic, skusku.

I like the simplicity of it, the efficiency/reliability aspect and it's matured now too.

It still serves all of my needs just fine, so why change?

I have spent brief periods on the newer systems and loathe Vista and the 7 interface.

I run XP at the office - with a classic shell. ;)

As for the Q. at hand, I've found some references to image filters on Google.

It seems the answer may lie in Office files - which I don't use on here.

The information available also doesn't quite correspond to what I've found on my side.

I may need to resort to tinkering with the SFC protection. Thanks Park@82.

Cheers.

Disable Windows File Protection?

Yup, looking at disabling WFP now, thanks.

Not a chance, Datura. ;)

BSODs? Nope. Reboots this year? Can't recall. Slow performance? Never.

I read it's linked with OCD and depression >.>

I work with computers - that's part and parcel. ;)

I would confidently bet that I have a more stable and reliable system than any of you - and mine is used, constantly, for a wide variety of purposes.

...and if you start tinkering, the world becomes the universe.

The next OS I personally go to will be non-MS. It's the last piece of MS software I'm running as-is.

windows 2000 is old and rusted. not even Q20 can fix the squeaks anymore

Bet that it's more stable and reliable? Ha-ha! I accept your challenge! My baby hasn't had any issues since its inception and I've been running Win7 from January with zero problems to date :D

We need independent verification and auditors! I want my winnings! :D
