Just a quick question....

I'm looking at replacing my old trusty Geforce 8800GTX with a GTX 570 or GTX 480. I know my current setup is outdated and will probably bottleneck the GPU ,but I will be replacing the aging mobo etc in due time. Should be able to get a nice FPS boost from the GTX570....

The thing I want to know from the pc gurus on here is if my Asus P5k Deluxe/wifi which have a PCI-E x 16 slot would be able to take the newer GTX 570 as I see it states it's a PCI-E 2.0 card??? I will be gaming on a 22" lcd @ 1680x1050 res.

Last question I have a 550W PSU will I really need to replace this with a 700W one for the card to run?

My specs are in my sig....

It'll work fine - PCIE 2.0 is backwards compatible. You OC'ed E8400 should hold up well, as should your 550W. Enjoy!

That's what I wanted to hear.....Any major throughput difference between PCIE 1.0 and 2.0?

Last question I am planning on pulling the trigger on a Gainward GTX570 GS(Golden Sample) with a nice standard overclock of 800/2000. Any other cards I should consider in the R3500 range?

Yes there is a throughput difference between PCIE1.0 and 2.0 but I think it doesn't make any difference.

As for what you can buy that's better, I don't know, it's a good buy. There isn't a single graphics card that's really comparable AFAIK.

You can buy my two 5830's for R2000 and Crossfire them, I think that might actually outperform it. :)

Yes there are throughput differences between v1 & v2 but as you said it won't make a difference as there is probably not a card on the market that can saturate a v1 slot at this time. The slot bandwidth is way ahead of current card bandwidth so a v1 slot will be fine.

The single GTX570 would beat the 2x HD5830 by a small margin, because the HD5xxx series don't scale as well as the HD6xxx.
For R2000 the 2x HD5830 is a bargain, but then of course you'll need at least a decent 550W PSU (eg. GS600).

You can also have a look at the HD6970 card, which would be in the R3000-R3500 price range.

Most top end cards do saturate a 1.0 slot since 2.0 has double the bandwidth and there are performance losses when the top end cards are run in a x8 2.0 slot.

Big up to Kuga for sorting me out with my brand spanking new GTX 570 she's a real beast!
