Old Tokina lens

I'm clearing a few things at home and sold my dads old film Pentax MZ50 the other day.

Now I found an old Tokina 100-300mm F5.6-6.7 lens that I suspect he used with the Pentax. I'm going to put it on BoB for a R1.00 - but I'm curious if it means it'll only fit Pentax cameras?

Do the film and digital have the same threads - so someone with a digital Pentax SLR can use it?

Yes, if it's Pentax K-Mount, modern Pentax bodies can use it. The mount hasn't changed.

Kind of, there will be no autofocus if it's the older model and the magnification will change to something like 160-450 (or 60-200 - I forget which way it goes) 'cos of the DSLR crop factor. That is also quite a slow lens if it starts at F5.6.

And the MZ50 had the 'crippled' KAF mount.

How will I know for sure that it does have the Pentax K Mount?
What is a crippled KAF mount?
The lens does say AF on the barrel - so a dSLR won't drive the auto focus?

I can't seem to get much on the net about this lens :/

I know it's slow - but for a possible R1.00 I'm sure someone can use it ;)

The crippled KAF mount is irrelevant. If the lens fitted on the Pentax body, and if it's a bayonet type mount (as opposed to a screw mount), it will fit on a Pentax DSLR.

Pentax bodies still have focus motors in, since many of their lenses don't have built-in motors. So chances for AF are good, if the lens doesn't do a bad implementation of Pentax's AF spec. You'll have to try and see.

It may be that metering doesn't work if the lens doesn't have the electronics for it, but if it has AF, it's likely to have metering as well.

Thanks.

I can't get ANY info on this lens ... it's unreal.

Out of interest - assuming I can reavh the lady who bought the MZ50 it probably fits - how much could I charge her for this? I get the feeling even on BoB no one will buy as I can actually tell them what it is :/

Your picture looks like a Pentax KAF mount of one flavour or another. IOW it will work on any Pentax camera with a bayonet mount, unless it has the dreaded Ricoh locking pin that jams lenses onto Pentax DSLRs.

It has a screwdriver autofocus drive, so it will focus, although at f5.6 it will hunt a lot and f6.7 will be worse. It also has an A setting on the aperture ring so all the metering modes should work fine.

Beyond that it seems, if the 2 or 3 reviews I found can be trusted, to be a mediocre performer at best.

Also, it has a push-pull zoom mechanism which can pump dust into DSLR bodies.

If you want to save yourself the hassle of putting it onto BoB for R1, I'll give you R2 for it. Realistically you might get a few hundred Rand for it, but it will probably be a slow mover. You could also try the classifieds on outdoorphoto.co.za.

Hi,

Thanks for the info.

I think we may have read the same review - but this not a push/pull zoom ... so it must be another lens. I'm just trying to get any information on it before listing anywhere

Hey Dolby, if you are going to put it on BoB for R1.00 I'll give you R100 for it and save you the effort ;)

I still have and use a Pentax film as well as a Pentax DSLR that I can use it on. Provided it is scratch free of course.

Put it on ODP last night too ...let's give it a few days, otherwise I'm keen.

Can't see scatches on the glass - he used a filter the whole time I think
