Olivedale ADSL exchange issues

After much frustration and checking of cables, routers, ISPs and ADSL connectivity I finally accepted the inevitable - the fault is on Telkom's side.

Turns out the Olivedale exchange is experiencing some issues, and has been for the last two weeks. It has now got to the point where ADSL is no longer usable - I can't complete one full download on speedtest.net

This has been reported but it's absolute rubbish since I can't use the service for which I'm paying. My guess is it's been over supplied and is congested.

How do you solve a problem like Telkom?

It's better than it was (usable with high pings), but the problem definitely hasn't been sorted. And absolutely no word from Telkom.
 
I'm down the road from the clinic.

My 4mbps link was useless. (thought it was a 384kbps)
Telkom came out, did some tests and said the entire area is overloaded. (too many users)
They bumped me to a 10Meg.
I'm now a VERY happy camper.

The Telkom techy said "people who complain get bumped to 10Mbps, people who don't, stay where they are"

So COMPLAIN.!!!!

a) I complained
b) I'm too far from the exchange to make it to 10mbps
c) How is your latency? Please post pings to google.co.za :)
 
And Telkom doesn't even bother to keep you updated. Well done, you useless *****.
 
what exchange are you guys connected to ? there are two in olivedale IIRC the meadowbrook one or the other one ?
 
I'm on the Olivedale exchange but live in Douglasdale, about 3km from the exchange. I have complained to telkom and have an outstanding open call with them since FEBRUARY :(
I have gone so far as to do research and found that the Fourways exchange is probably closer, since it's on the corner of Witkoppen and William Nicol. I am desperately trying to have my line moved to the Fourways exchange, because the Olivedale problems just dont seem to go away.

Even if they could bump me up to 10MB (which they have said they can't) then that is not solving the issue. It's making it worse since the exchange becomes even more saturated. The latency is still ridiculously high on weekends and in the evenings.
 
Telkom speeds are Utter Rubbish!

I am also in Olivedale, down the hill from the clinic - and the problems do not seem to be getting sorted out, just did a speed test which shows almost no data getting through my line and "slower than 74% of SA"!

Have logged a fault with Telkom but I do not expect much from those people!

I'm gonna try claim my line rental back from them every month until this is resolved.
 
Yup Olivedale exchange is oversubscribed, the best I could get out of Telksum is they might upgrade the exchange next financial year, maybe, if they feel like it.

Can't we get everyone on myBB who is on this POS exchange to create a petition or something to get them to fix the exchange?

How are things going on the Olivedale Exchange? Hope it is better because I got my 011462 number today.

One thing Telkom caught me with was "Sir you can upgrade to 4MB" So I did just to found out days later my line only syncs at 2MB. So I went to go do my research to find out my line attenuation is 63.5, and my noise margin goes from 12 all the way down to 5.2db (which is VERY BAD)!!! Now explain to me HOW THE FUDGE CAN I QUALIFY FOR A 4MB line if my copper quality or distance ratio is counting against me??? Fudge me these TELKOM idiots ARE SO STUPID!
 
same here in the worcester aria

we only have one exchange...
but i am bout 2-3km away from it

its been 3weeks ,its getting better but stuck at 58kb/s download speed (must be 110kb/s)<- my used to be avg


a refund will be nice :)
but that will never happen

i upgraded to 1mbps last mounth so i gotten like 2weeks full speed and no this...verry sad

telkom shoud have a guy in every town that check the exchange every week...
 
Doesn't look like im going to have much joy with ADSL anytime soon. Luckily for those in Douglasdale, there is Bluedust wireless - they seem really affordable provided you are in the right are. Unfortunately Im too far down the dip. Has anyone in Olivedale Douglasdale signed up with Cybersmart or MWEB?
