On the "local to be capped" - something to consider ...

There is one way that Hellkom can redeem themselves partially regarding the capping of local.

Firstly, after your capped, you should go down to a slower connection speed, much like iBurst, probably a 64k line.

I'm hoping that Hellkom aren't quite as infernal as the Devil himself and that this line will not be horribly slow like the international.

To further lift my hopes high enough to potentially cause a massive dissapointment, possibly that 64k line will allow international access at 64k speeds, as opposed to virtually non-existent international that we have now after being capped.

My reasoning is based on Telkom indicating that to make it easier to buy more bandwidth and to measure it, they have to cap local as well.

Of course, if Hellkoms past actions are anything to go by, when you reach your cap, the only site you'll be able to access will be the one where you can buy more bandwidth ...

Food for thought - I remain foolishly optimistic as always.

Should Telkom dissapoint, well, they can kiss the R250 I give them each month for ISP fees goodbye and I'll move to the best "uncapped" ISP - whoever that may be at the time.

Right now, I don't trust the uncapped offerings at all - because they all contend an already contended service and when critical mass in terms of users is reached ...
 
Since Axxess are offering 10Gb SAIX accounts, i assume Telkom will offer similar sized accounts for similar prices. In that case, 30Gb should be plenty for almost everyone. Besides, I've not heard to many good things about uncapped offerings lately.
 
I'm really hoping that this is the way it's going to go.. 3 gigs is nothing, a minumum of 10 gigs would be a very good move on telkoms part.. but we all know deep down inside that this is not going to happen, no matter how much we hope for it.
 
"IF" they cap local then they will have to greatly reduce their line rental or even do away with it in its entirety. How can they possibly justify line rental after capping local access? The ISP's and resellers would be soooo pissed off with them, let alone us end users.
 
yes if this bull**** doesnt stop next month im turning to axxess or im goin to eet all ican,tired of waiting taking it in the back,sorrry but there is acceptible service quality and unnacceptable.....this is the latter
 
I thought I read somewhere that telkom (S white maybe) said, they will increase the cap and add local and then once you reach the cap no connection will be available unless you buy more bandwidth.

Well atleast we know that Telkom is consistent ( yeah consintently dissapointing d*ckheads ). First they released 512K then instead of advancing they released 384 and 192, maybe the next step will ADSL @ 64k for 299 capped @ 512MB.

I hate these f*%ckers.

Clearly it takes a while [read time between 512 introduced & then 384 & 192 introduced] to think of and test out ways to devolve the country into the dark ages, and we MyADSL members certainly aren't helping Telkomonopoly achieve their goals...whoopee...:D

It doesn't say anything about "no connection", it says :-

"Users, after reaching a cap, will be able to buy bandwidth in any format they choose, such as time or limited extra bandwidth."

If they do cut you off completely, they'll lose business users in thier droves.
 
Telkom can undercut any offering from axxess or other saix resellers, remember they simply reselling a modified package from saix. Its not their own bandwidth, so turning to axxess etc. wouldnt help much if telkom decides to offer something better? LOL great joke, or to simply stop axxess from offering what they offer.

Im not going to judge anything till it happens, Telkom might for some random reason surprise us with something decent(?)
 
I await news from my saix contact, however I belive these moves could be due to certain problems Telkom and other ISP's have been having.

1. All ISP's have been having a problem conecting with SAIX, idea: we pay 17 000 for a 2 meg line without bandwidth, now how can Telkom ask use to compete, by them reducing the local cap, the could either raise money for more interconnects or genrally slow local bandwidth down.

2. ISP's and Home Users and SME's have been using local bandwidth to bypass international caps by going direct to the ISP for international only like some of the uncapped offerings by somes ISP's including my own a while back.

3. The pontential release of a local skype server and general voip is killing the local bandwidth and Telkom want to make some money from this.

Just some idea's on motivation, however with tripple play comming in, what are they going to do, and aslo VODSL which Telkom is going to release will be intresting to see there moves.

I really hope telkom gives us a better deal but they always find new unique ways to screw us over again and again, so I ain't holding my breath
 
Considering, what WickedWeasel has said, it seems to me that Telkom will cut the line after the cap. That means that there will be no connection ( yes, no connection !) unless you buy more ($$) bandwidth. This will be partially to avoid the local sharing of their tripple-play broadcasts.

Imagine this they start broadcasting M-net etc. and some dude subscribes to this and then shares it on his/her P2P. This will mean (f*%ckin) Telkom is loosing out on some more $$. So, it is in Telkom's interest to cap everything so they have control. This allows them to charge a premium on services that they think can make them more $$. Without local cap they might aS WELL SAY GOODBYE TO THEIR long-distance revenue (within South Africa) from the corporates, which they have just realised. With the local cap they are in a position to exert control.

Guys, THERE IS EVIL LURKING in the depths of HellKom. They will only do what is best for them. They only do any GOOD when they are forced to. When was the last time they did anything for the good of the customer.

We need competion for Telkom and we need it right now!!!
 
I highly doubt cutting it dead, I see a more ibursy effect happening on telkom capping... otherwise telkom would cut themself to deep and bleed to death.
 
What shocks me the most is that most of the people on SGS use ADSL for gaming. I can't really believe that Telkom are that stupid. Yes the majority are most likely NON-gamers [on ADSL] but there are some people who use it purely for gaming.

I fear if this is implemented without an increased cap or without a significant drop in price, it signals good-bye to SA Gaming.
 
They prolly wanna push people back onto ISDN - more money from dialup charges. That would be Telkom Logic™.
