In response to an overwhelming demand for access to the Windows 7 Beta, Microsoft has removed the 2.5 million download cap on the beta but will however physically remove the file for download after a 14 day period. It is just amazing how Microsoft can afford to remove the cap on already close to 75 Billion MB of data transfered. If a company in South Africa had to do this using Telkom they would be bankrupt.
In the meantime the organizers of the anoual Consumer Electronics Show had a 23% decline in visitors this year largely due to the economic cricis and resulting credit crunch. The casinos also looked less cramped than usual. A friend of mine who managed to go there did inform me that it was a good show though and that the alcohol in Vegas is still as inebriating as always. What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas unless you can make the people involved anonymous, right?
If you are a Linux fan you will be interested in the new Palm Smartphone called the Palm Pre, which sports some interesting feautres and is the first phone to use Palm’s WebOS Linux based operating system. This phone will be released in the USA in cooperation with the Sprint network, but a release into other markets could happen relatively soon after that, including South Africa by the looks of things as the Treo series also went a similar route before hitting our shores.
With regard to my blog of yesterday, something I picked up on the W3 this morning piqued my interest. Microsoft and a couple of other interested parties invested $24 million (US DOLLARS) in N-Trig, a developer of multi-touch technology. You can read more about it here: http://www.pcworld.com/article/156969/microsoft_invests_in_multitouch_company.html
I think it is a good time to invest in the technology if one hasn’t done so. At your own risk of cours, but I seriously don’t think you can go wrong.
