Onboard flash activates with speedlight connect

hi guys,

i JUST got a Yongnuo YN460 Flash for my Nikon D3000 and i find that the built in flash clicks up even when the speedlight is connected?

Any ideas?

Have you tested the camera with another flash to see if it does the same?

Sounds to me like the camera doesn't "see" the external flash. if you hold the onboard flash down and hit the shutter button does the external flash actually fire? I have the YN585 and the onboard flash never popped up when it was on my 7D.

he flash fires when I use it... But I don't think the camera registers the flash is blugged in .ie. In auto mode, the flash fires but the camera sets a slow shutter as if there is no flash

So far as I know, the YongNuo YN460 is a manual flash. so it can't communicate with the camera. It only gets the signal to fire. It doesn't have i-TTL

So if you're using your camera in an auto-type mode (Tv or Av) the camera will not know the flash is even connected.

Try setting your camera to manual and setting the flash power manually. Then see if the onboard flash pops up. You will probably have to compensate with aperture to make sure your flash exposure is correct.
