Vier onderwysers van die Filadelphia hoërskool vir gestremde kinders in Atteridgeville is afgedank nadat dit aan die lig gekom het dat hulle gestremde leerlinge verkrag het.

Die Gautengse Onderwysdepartement het raadslede na 'n skool in Atteridgeville gestuur om ondersoek in te stel.

Dit is dieselfde skool waar die adjunkminister van Openbare Werke, Hendrietta Bogopane-Zulu, gesê het sy is meer as 20 jaar gelede verkrag.

Klaarblyklik het die onderwysers 'n aantal leerlinge verkrag. Die saak is nou na die Suid-Afrikaanse Onderwysraad verwys, wat die bevoegdheid het om onderwysers van die register te verwyder.

I just re-wrote this in English for those who can't read Afrikaans, it's fairly direct translation:

Four teachers from the Filadelphia highschool for disabled children in Atteridgeville have been let go (read fired) after it came to light that they have been raping disabled children.

The Gauteng Department of Education sent board members to the school in Atteridgeville to investigate.

It is the same school where the deputy minister of Public Works, Hendrietta Bogopane-Zulu, said she was raped 20 years ago.

Apparently teachers raped a number of students. The case has been referred to the South African Education board, whom have the authority to remove teachers from the register.

It seems that rape is ok so long as the children are mentally disabled.

Well perhaps the school does cater to children in wheel chairs and such but I wouldn't call someone "gestremd" in Afrikaans if they were in a wheel chair. Could also apply to children with certain serious physical disabilities I guess.

Afrikaans is technically my first language but I've been speaking English for most of my life, so I'm not great at Afrikaans!

The distinction should be between physically disabled and mentally disabled (Fisiek gestremd of verstandelik gestremd).

I've rather removed the reference to mentally disabled since like you say 'gestremd' may mean physically disabled. They don't really specify so neither should I

I think you should take the deputy minister's plight to another thread. This one is pretty sick for what has happened to the kids. The death penalty is not good enough if these fsckers are indeed guilty.
