This might be a stupid question, but is it possible to have to adsl lines in the same household and then use the same account? The reason I am asking this is because our house almost everyone downloads, so if any of us wants to browse or stream videos would take a while. Would this solve the problem? if it isnt possible are there any alternative way?

Thanks in Advance

Yes it is possible, but it's costly see if you can't rather just upgrade your current lines speed.

Connection speed of package?

If 2meg, then you will end up with 2 x 1meg lines.
Will be better/cheaper to apply for highest package you can afford, then share it on the router so everyone gets the same speed. Remember 2nd adsl line will also add another voice line cost, even if you do not use it.

yeah you could upgrade your line speed then use netlimiter

or you could upgrade your line speed and use a nice router with nice QoS settings or set up your own gateway with QoS

Or get a 3g router, set up its wifi and tell everyone to use that for browsing. Maybe a 10gig package per month.

If that fails, tell your family to get out more!

That is possible, but won't necessarily solve your problem.

If you use an uncapped account the speed will be halved between the lines, capped would work well.

As the others have said though, rather upgrade your line speed and ask the downloaders to download at night after everyone has gone to sleep.

Im running on a 4mb line at the moment. Our house is complicated coz we use a device to watch online television from overseas. If that is switched on everyone is slowed down like you would have to wait 5 seconds just for google to load... which is really annoying. So are you saying if I get a 1mb just for that device and a 2 mb for the rest on an uncapped account still wont solve my problem?

There's something else you could do.

If you can't your line upgraded to 6Meg, just get two 2Meg accounts. Setup one 2Meg o the streaming device, and the other 2Meg account on the router.

That's if the device supports PPPOE.

Yes it does that sounds like a good idea:D never thought of that way, just so we on the same page that would mean that the device is limited to only using 2 megs? And for the other account it would be us running on a 2 meg line?

Yes. It would be like you're running two 2Meg lines.

Hi There,
I would keep it simple and increae the line speed and then put in QoS to limit the browsing activity and give your streaming TV the top piority.

I think it would work out cheaper.
