One Box To Rule them all

If you can hold off until Amazon Prime day July 10th. Then you might get it for half price like i did :).

Wireless KB and mouse, K830 Logitech KB and M235 mouse...
Don't want any of that stuff in my living room.

Do these UHD Android boxes output Netflix in UHD? I know the LIT can't - what about the rest? I'm sure I read somewhere that Android boxes battle with Netflix UHD?
Yes, depending on their spec.

At the absolute top of the pile is the Nvidia Shield.

Then I'd say it's between the Mi Box and Apple TV, depending on your preferred ecosystem. With ecosystem not being a concern, I'd rather get the Mi Box for half the price...

But check my earlier link - apparently not every Android Box plays UHD Netflix ?
So it may run smoothly and be a UHD box - but Netflix specifically won't UHD on it?
That's my understanding, anyhow ?

I think a HTPC is a messy solution.

How do you control it?
What software if you jump from app to app?

Unless there is software that gives the 10ft interface?

An NVidia Shield is your best solution. It costs R3400.
You can use the Gamestream App on your Shield to stream your games from your PC to your TV as well without the need of wires. Everything happening on your internal network obviously.
There is nothing better in the market than a Shield.

The Shield and Mi Box have been certified by Netflix so Series and Movies on Netflix are able to be displayed in 4k.

Shield doesn’t support Dolby Vision.

Pointless anyway unless you have a set that does support it, which in SA is limited to certain LG models. In which case I'd rather use the Netflix app on the TV...

My biggest gripe with both the Mibox and the Shield is their WiFi range, very poor, you need to house your modem in the same room as the box.

My LTE router is 5 rooms away with five walls in between em..no issue's. Something else causing an issue their buddy..

Google "chigz tech reviews". They have a nice chart listing all the tv boxes and what you get with each ome spec wise, as well as max resolution on netflix etc.
