Hows this.. My girlfriend and I go into the local Telkom office to order a telephone line and ADSL... we get told it will take 21 days... I know found out, I have to wait another month because the technicians are overworked... and I will still have to pay for this months line rental... even though I don't have a line yet... I ordered one so am responsible. Apparantly it can't be avoided as the technicians are behind...

BUT I STILL HAVE TO PAY TELKOM FOR A PRODUCT I HAVE NOT RECEIVED YET!!! IF THEY TAKE SIX MONTHS I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE SIX MONTHS THAT I AM WAITING!!!

That's a plain lie if you ask me, they can't force you to pay for something you don't own yet, phone account enquiries and tell them the story.

When it is finally installed, call Telkom billing and give them the dates of application and installation and they should give you a credit. Same thing happened to me in 2005 when I ordered my ADSL.

That definitely sounds wrong - I certainly did not need to pay for my ADSL line for the months that I waited for mine to be installed.

What I recommend you do is visit a -more competent- branch of Telkom who actually know how to use their accounting system. Surely the status would be left to "Pending" or something and only upon "Active" should it start charging you.

Your account is linked to a landline number. You don't have one, how can you have an account?

Do you have the land line yet but not the ADSL?

The way I am reading it is that you have the landline but you are awaiting the ADSL and router installation. If this is the case then you will have to pay the R112 for the landline even if you do not have a telephone plugged in. You would have the facilities to phone even if you do not do so, so you pay for this rental. You will not pay the ADSL portion until the installation for this is complete and your line has been "verified" etc.

Just the way I am interpreting it....

Report them to the Ombudsman.

HAHAHA! Thanks I needed a good giggle...

I was told this by account enquiries...

Still waiting for the landline... and I have been told by account enquiries that I have to pay my rental from the date I placed the order.

Spoke to my Mum last night. She said that in 1984 when they built the house they currently live in, they waited for six months for the line to be moved and when they refused to pay the six months of rental they landed up in court where the magistrate ruled in favour of the Post Office (then the Telecommunications Provider).

Same thing happened to me in 2005, they billed me for two months wen my line was down. I called them(account enq) told the call-centre agent i just spoke to "Debbie Labaschagne" she apparently was the director off accounts or something... next bill these outrageous amounts cleared...

Bullsh1t. I moved house last year. Did not have a line and ADSL for nearly 40 days. I phoned accounts after the line was up and they gave me a credit for the 40 days, "No Quible". :)

Well that got telkom to pay me R1158,67 for charges they rung up on my bill that was not me phoning

Mmmm.... where as I must admit I am skeptical... I am also curious to learn how you did this... for I once failed at getting several months of calls to Zambia reversed. I ended up having to put a pin code on my line.
