Ok! Boffins, step up to the plate and assist a fellow forumite.....

Have a windows 7 PC, 64 bit, connecting to the network using wireless... (WORKGROUP called WORK)

Wish to connect an old XP computer(WORKGROUP called MSHOME) from the W7 machine, using cable...

Question1: Can I be connected to two different networks at the same time, using wireless for the one and Cable for the other?

Question2: I have shared everything on the XP machine, how do I get to view those files from the W7 machine, if the above can be done?

thanks

Mortymoose.... :)

Is your wifi router plugged into this network?

Just make sure same IP range and put them on the same workgroup.

If the network cable(s) for the XP to 7 connection isn't going to a switch/hub/router you'll need a crossover cable, but yes entirely doable

Yes as long as they are on the same network and subnet, otherwise you will require a router or layer 3 switch to route traffic between dissimilar networks. If you connect everything to your router and on DHCP you should be smiling

Auto sensing ports took care of that 10 years ago... no need for a crossover cable for this.

Assume the worst till told otherwise, especially since there is an XP PC involved (13 years old OS) ;)
