Hi

I'm having a problem with one pc on our network. All the other other computers can access files and printers on each other except the problem pc. Pinging the problem pc comes up with request timed out. The problem pc shows up in workgroup computers but you can't open it. The error message says:

\\NAME_OF_PC is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource.
Contact the administator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.

The network path was not found.

On the problem pc when you view workgroup, the only computer in the workgroup is the problem pc itself. You can ping the IP addresses of the other computers. You can access the other computer by using: \\IP_ADDRESS_OF_OTHER_NETWORK_PC but not: \\NAME_OF_OTHER_NETWORK_PC on the run option in the start menu. File and printer sharing is enabled on all pcs and the internet works fine on all pcs.

The problem only started when I switched over from a WEP to WPA wireless network.

I have tested with all firewalls, AV, etc programs disabled, but still the problem persists.

Any suggestions?

Open Windows Firewall and check the Exceptions tab. Make sure File and Printer Sharing is checked.

Yes, make sure there's a checkmark next to File and Printer Sharing in the Windows Firewall. (Are you using Windows Firewall?)

Switch off every bloody firewall on the network. Make sure that there is no interference/bad signal and then try again.

The Ping indicates something is wrong on a network level not software.

ETA: Check that the PCs are on the same subnet mask.

File and print sharing enabled?

I had the firewall disabled, but I'll still check it out.

I enabled the firewall. Under the exceptions "file and print sharing" was already ticked, so I unticked applied, then ticked and applied. That solved my problem:D So simple:o

Thanks for the help:).

damn, even though it was disabled? you learn something new everyday, windoze...
