I've tried to get sensible answers from Telkom, but alas, no joy. Are there any ISP's that offer 56k dial-up ability, whilst the ADSL connection is still active, on the same account (same username/password)?

Thanx

If I can remember correctly, the bundles that Telkrap offered allowed 2 account logins on their 'Prolog' package and 5 on their 'Prolog Plus'. Things may have changed, however, seeing that they're a law unto themselves...

Thanks mbs. That's what I understood as well. However when I called them they seemed to be quite sure that this was not possible, with the same username and password. That said, I do wonder if my question was understood or not. I tried a second call to hopefully get someone who sounded more clued up, but of course, I was dissapointed. So any more help would be appreciated.

If I remember correctly, you should be able to use the same account details for 56k dialup. One of the initial "selling points" of Telkom ADSL.

I am unsure of that fact though, chances are your question was not correctly understood. I'd say try and look on their website again. Then if you decide to call in again, demand to speak to someone that can speak afrikaans (even tho you might not be) you'd be assured that if the person on the other end can speak afrikaans fluently, they will have enough brain cells to understand and answer your question as well.

I'm not saying anything, just that bilingual people (afrikaans -> english and not english -> afrikaans) tend to understand and grasp more.

half a word is worth a full sentance... or something like that

Yeah thanks noone. Sounds like a plan. I see their website does make mention of 2 concurrent connections for the "Advanced" package. So let's see what happens.

KillKape, you can !

My brother uses my account details to dialup and I've never seen any problems my side.

I'm actually doing a dialup test at work with my account, while my ADSL at home is busy downloading - works fine.

I went for the Prolog+ account with Telkom to provide the road warriors with dial-up. It works like a charm.

Be carefull though: Your password is stored in plain text by windows - I just can't remember anymore where to look :-(

Brilliant tip... Am gonna do this from now on!!!

Statistically speaking your chance of then getting a decent answer is greatly improved. If you don't like it, then just remember that the truth sometimes HURT.

:)

KillKape - I've done this. I turned on the modem (After hours) and let windows manage where to get the data from. The ADSL router is still connected and uses the same login + password as the dialup connection. Used a kind of bridge connection with QOS to let windows decide which line to get the data from.
The results were no astounding and it's a complete waste of time, but it was an interesting experiment and it did proove that you can run both simultaneously.
I'm using Prolog, not Prolog Plus.

Most excellent! :) Thanks a ton to all! Just the answers I was looking for. Seems like Telscum need some advise on how their systems work and how to supply tech advice!

Cheers ;)

Look at it from Telkomonopoly's POV, if you had believed their stories you might've ended up buying a separate ISP account, which is what $izwe wants ;).

Yes and that seems to be the problem. It's all about the money and not about the service, which is what people pay money for, after all. Seemed to be something very wrong in all this. A very sad state of affairs!
